Prince William Park Authority seeks public input for park’s use
Silver Lake Regional Park has opened to the public for picnicking, hiking and fishing.
Now, Prince William County Park Authority officials are seeking input about what other activities might be allowed at the park, near Haymarket, in the future.
The second of two Park Authority meetings about the park's master plan is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Mountain View Elementary School, 5600 McLeod Way, Haymarket.
Next, the Park Authority Board will review suggestions from the community and develop a master plan for the park.
At the first public meeting, held earlier this month, attendees listed non-motorized boating, camping, swimming, evening fishing and disc golf as some of the activities they'd like to see available at the park.
Others said they'd like to see the park include picnic shelters, a shooting range, community gardens, water sprinklers for children to run through and a dog park.
Those interested can also make suggestions about the park's master plan on a blog on the Park Author-ity's Web site at http://www.pwcparks.org.
On the blog, several commentors have asked for a disc golf course to be added to the park. Other commentors asked for non-motorized boating and a larger fishing area in the lake.
Others said the park is fine the way it is and should not be developed further.
