Neighborhood news: Learn about Viking band, color guard

Rising freshmen at Woodbridge Senior High School are invited to band and guard information nights tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. both tonight and Thursday in the band room at the high school, located at 3001 Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge.
Students who are interested in being part of the high school marching band or guard program are encouraged to come and hear from band director Mark Carder, along with section leaders of the band and guard.
During this "no-strings-attached" event, students can learn the basics of marching, how to hold the instrument when marching and playing, and other helpful information about the Mighty Viking Marching Band program.
Moms Club to hold potluck event at Tall Oaks Center
The Lake Ridge Moms Club will have an "end-of-year" potluck meeting Thursday at Tall Oaks Center in Lake Ridge at 7 p.m.
This summer there will be playgroup events at Lake Ridge Marina Playground.
Arts and crafts show this weekend in Occoquan
This weekend the streets of historic Occoquan will be filled with contemporary and country crafters from the local area and out of state, as the spring Arts & Crafts Show is held. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The public will find a variety of crafts, as well as local merchant items. Food vendors will have special foods for sale and there will be street musicians entertaining the crowds.
New hours in effect at Lake Ridge library
New hours for the Lake Ridge Neighborhood Library begin this week.
The library will be open from Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
New 'Wowbrary' service offered at library
Prince William Public Library System offers a new service that allows you to receive free e-mail alerts about new library items. You can easily request an item that you're interested in through the service.
This service, known as "Wowbrary," is available at your local library, or visit http://www.pwcgov.org/library.
Manassas Chorale to perform at Carnegie Hall
Good news from the Manassas Community Chorale group, which is an auditioned chorale which has Lake Ridge residents among its singers. The chorale auditioned and was accepted to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York on Saturday.
This is an exciting honor and the chorale is thrilled and would like to share that exciting news with all of the com-munity.
WSHS seniors to graduate on June 13 at stadium
Graduating seniors of Woodbridge Senior High School participate in their graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 13 at 10 a.m.
The event will be held outdoors at the school's athletic stadium.
