Independence Empowerment Center in Manassas will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a Broadway Dinner Gala on Nov. 14.
It will be an elegant evening of magical music, exquisite food and unforgettable friends at the Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, 15900 Berkeley Drive.
A video montage will showcase 10 years of the organization's challenges and achievements. Several recognitions will be awarded, including the initial Sen. Charles Colgan Advocacy Award.
Participants will be able to dance to a wonderful collection of Broadway tunes. Mary Lopez, executive director, promises to lead off the dancing.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $55/single and $100/double. A table for 10 is $500.
The center's mission is to encourage, support and provide options to people with disabilities in the area. The goal is to help people with disabilities either maintain or acquire their independence through four core services—independent living skills training, peer counseling, information and referral, and advocacy, whether systemic or individual.
The center is located at 9001 Digges Road, Suite 103.
Change of venue
The Prince William Chapter of the American Red Cross will move from its present quarters in Manassas.
Thanks to a donation of rent-free space from the Davis Ford Crossing Shopping Center, the unit will move next week.
Two very special events are coming up for the organization.
On Nov. 14 starting at 9 a.m., RW Murray will lead a group of volunteers in renovating the existing chapter at 9317 West St. to get it ready to rent.
On Dec. 18, the chapter will have a Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and open house in the new home at 99343 Liberia Ave.
"This is great news for us … and we thank everyone," said Karen Wayne, CEO.
