The Kiwanis Club of Manassas recently presented two $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have made significant contributions to Key Club, a service organization sponsored by Kiwanis International and the local club.

The recipients were Mitesh Patel and Molly Hilerg.

The son of Chunilal and Daksha Patel, Mitesh is a graduate of Osbourn Park High School with a GPA of 3.80. He will attend the University of Toronto to major in human biology with a career goal to become a neurosurgeon.

He has been a Key Club member since 2005 and while in the club served as committee head and as Division 10A lieutenant governor. Mitesh said his work as lieutenant governor made him realize that each individual has the ability to make significant contributions to the community in which they live.

Molly is the daughter of Sherry and Carl Hilberg and is a graduate of Brentsville District High School. Her academic courses included many Cambridge and AP classes. She will attend the College of William and Mary to major in pre-med. Her career goal is to become an OB/GYN. She is a charter member of her Key Club.

While in the club, she served as treasurer and said her work in the club has allowed her to become a more outgoing member of her community.

The Kiwanis Club also recognized the efforts of the Key Club faculty advisors LeAnne Beardsley of Osbourn Park; Ann Kulakowski of Osbourn High School; and Kelley Quann of Brentsville District High School.

The club meets every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton, 10800 Vandor Lane, Manassas.
