Official: Immigration crackdown pushes down crime

MANASSAS, Va. (AP) _ A Prince William County official is attributing a decline in certain types of crime last year to the county’s crackdown on illegal immigrants.
A study released last week says homicides declined by 44 percent from 2006 to 2007. The incidence of rape fell 33 percent, robberies declined 23 percent, and aggravated assaults declined 18 percent.
County board Chairman Corey Stewart says the decrease is due to the resolutions cracking down on illegal immigrants in the county.
The county first started discussing the issue last summer, though no policy changes went into effect until this year.
Nancy Lyall of the immigrant advocacy group Mexicans Without Borders says many crimes are simply going unreported now because immigrants are afraid to go to police.

Yes well rested but the trip was not paid by big oil but I know you were just messing with me and I do have a sense of humor. I have to agree in part that I’m not sure if the statistics tell the true story as to why they are dropping. I would like to give some credit to the fine PW County Police Department. I’ve have never advocated for a policy to go into homes or 7-11 to round up those that my be illegal. I am however 100% behind the policy of having ICE remove criminal aliens from the US. I would like to see a National ID of some kind but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. The civil libertarians get all up in arms when you even try to discuss it.
Have any of you that claim Hispanics are the ones committing crime ever been on the Sex Offenders web site? It is mostly americans. Hispanics are being targeted at this time, however alot of Americans are also committing crimes but everyone seems to overlook them because of all the hate and greed thats within thierself. The bottom line is that we all have the same blood and we are all human. No race is any better than the other.
Illegal criminals have been leaving in fear since July 2007 and yes you can most definitely count the second half of 2007 toward crime statistics. 2008 will be even better. Day after day that i look at the police briefs, numerous illegals and other numerous bad egg Hispanics committ crimes. Way out of proportion to their numbers in the “General Population.“ Criminals like Alfredo Ramos, Carlos Amaranda Albarenga-Escobar, Christian Molina<aka. Jose Maximino Flores-Morales>, Abdullah Bonilla, Marlon Berrioz, Mynor Andres Gonzalez Estrada, Anunciacion Santos Turcios, Jose Roberto Castro-Gomez, Salvador Mauricio Elias Miranda, Elias Isaac Quinteros-Soriano, Marvin Alexis Rodriguez-Barrera, Michael Angel Ayala, Oswaldo Martinez, Mario Roberto Keen, Carlos De La Cruz Ramos, Jose Santos Sibrian Espinoza, and many more that i didn’t list. Dave where is this anecdotal evidence of increased hate crimes against Latinos in PWC. We will be waiting for those figures. If their is more crime against illegal aliens maybe they will leave. The talk of the Resolution had been around months before it was adopted.As soon as it started we saw a change in the neighborhoods.
A few trips to the Health Dept. and to the Courts in Manassas,will show alot of illegals appearing for help. Many are given a slap on the hand and sent back out to drive and maine people on the roads.
Lyall always has an answer,she must get paid big bucks to come up with such nonsence. Lets get real,they never reported anything,as they don’t believe in the Police or Laws.Only the legal immigrants accept our Country’s Laws.
How dumb could our County Board Chairman be to publicly state crime rates are down in 2007 from 2006 due to the immigration crack down, when that only went into effect in Jan 2008. And ALL of the illiterate ban-wagons that jumped right on that cripled horse. Did he and his followers get his education in Prince William County? This is quite scary.
Blame every ill on undocumented aliens? It just proves the point that Corey Stewart is bigoted against Latinos. It appears to me the biggest growing crime in the county are hate crimes against Latinos that Corey Stewart and Greg Letique are encouraging.
Worth posting twice Duane. Reinforces the old adage that “Figures don’t lie but liars figure”. Another whopper by Corey Stewart in an effort to make his supporters believe the Resolution is having any affect on immigration.
Anyone been to the health dept lately? They need to have the INS raid that place when they hold their maternity clinic.
Wanted to add I am very happy to hear any news in crime rates going down. But I do not feel any safer today due to some immigration crack down than I did yesterday.
Question…has anyone of you biggots looked at the names and races of these murders, rapist and assailants. Guess what I have. I watch and read the local news daily.I rarely see hispanic names. Unless you think Tyson Marshall Lee Banks, Myison Iaeene Ellis,George Rayfus Quinn,Jwan Jay Jones, could possibly be illegal aliens. All of these names and criminals will be found on the news headline page of this website. Why doesn’t someone look a little more in depth at the crime statistics? You might find out where the crime is really coming from.
