Program to teach dog adoption

Bull Run Regional Library will offer a program on adopting dogs Thursday at 7 p.m.

October is Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month and Suzette Kapp of the Prince William County Animal Shelter will present a program on how to adopt a dog. She will also discuss how to choose and train a new puppy.The program is free but registration is requested.

Romance in the Afternoon Book Discussion Group will meet Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. at the library with members discussing “Memoirs of a Geisha” by Arthur Golden.

Third Thursdays are held the third Thursday of each month at 4:15 p.m. at the library with the next one planned for Nov. 9. Third Thursdays is a literature-based activity program for students between first and fifth grades. Activities may include cooking, games or crafts.

Activities at the Central Community Library for the month include:

The Mystery Book Club meeting at 7 p.m. Oct.19 and every second Monday (non-holiday) to discuss a variety of titles, including this week’s “Death of a Thousand Cuts,” by Barbara D’Amato.
Muncha Buncha Books meet every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:45 a.m. This fall’s programs feature stories every child should know, like the “Three Little Pigs,” “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “The Hare and the Tortoise.” Each program features stories and music and a craft or film. The free programs are designed for children ages 2 to 6.

Central Reads, a contemporary book discussion group, meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. The title under discussion this week will be “Peace Like a River,” by Leif Enger.
n Whatever their level of fluency, residents can hone their conversation skills by chatting with others who are practicing their Spanish any Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. Bring a lunch and hable espanol. No registration is required.

The Mind Travelers Book Club is a reading discussion group for students in grades six through eight. It meets once a month on the second Thursday at 7 p.m. to discuss books the students have chosen to read.

Dreamtime Wednesdays is the library’s evening story time designed for children ages 2 to 6 accompanied by an adult. It takes place every two weeks on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The theme for this week is “Afraid of the Dark.”

Shenanigans is the library’s special craft program for children currently in kindergarten and older. All of the crafts are fun, yet challenging activities for students. The next session is Oct. 29 with the theme “Salty Bones and Creepy Crawly Cupcakes.”
