Sen. Charles J. Colgan, D-Manassas, was presented a special lifetime achievement award "for his enduring support for economic development in Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County while serving in the General Assembly.
The presentation was made by the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce at the 2009 Virtual Bus Tour, which was held at Heritage Hunt Golf & Country Club in Gainesville.
Colgan was presented an enlarged picture of the Prince William Campus of George Mason University, for which he has been a big supporter.
Sponsored by the City of Manassas, the tour provided a preview of 60 commercial properties available to lease or purchase in five different neighborhoods in and around the greater Manassas and Prince William County area via up-to-date aerial and land photos in an informative presentation.
"Tour guides" Steve Daves of R. W. Murray Co. and Roger W. Snyder of RWS Aerial Photography shared the inside scoop on new projects in the pipeline in addition to current space, illustrating what this year's theme, "The Place Is Right," was particularly apt.
The event's Platinum Sponsor was the City of Manassas Park. Gold sponsors included First Potomac Realty Trust; Fulton Bank; Prince William Health System; R. W. Murray Co.; Vint Hill Economic Development Authority and Weber Ghadban & Associates Realty Inc.
Silver sponsors were Broad Street Realty; Grubb & Ellis Company; Haymarket/Gainesville Business Association; Miller Brothers Inc.; Prince William County Department of Economic Development; R. E. Daffan, Inc. and Vander-pool, Frostick & Nishanian.
Exhibitors included Norman Realty Inc.; PNC Bank; Prince William County/Greater Manassas Convention and Visitors Bureau and Washington Business Journal.
Each attendee also received a Virtual Bus Tour Book listing more than 90 available commercial properties. About 200 chamber members and guests attended the session.
Snyder told the gathering that this area was prime for development, considering its strategic location, a highly edu-cated and talented workforce and pro-business government.

Advocator: You failed to tell us what Chuck could do with the award…
Lifetime award for what? For allowing his former neighborhood to deteriorate into North Matamoras? For allowing the budgets of the schools in his district to be sucked dry by ESOL students? For befriending the day laborers at the Coverstone 7-11? For lying to us about the legitimacy of the residence status of the local illegal aliens?
I’ll tell you what you can do with that award, Chuck.
