Neighborhood News: Brunswick Stew Day at Nokesville’s fall fest
Published: October 29, 2009
The Nokesville Ruritan Club's Brunswick Stew Day has been rescheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.
While this has been a traditional fundraiser for about 22 years, the day has grown into Nokesville's fall festival.
People come from all over to support the Ruritans' service programs and stay for the Brethren Church's bazaar, community information and, now, the last day of the season for the farmers market.
For $8, stay on-site for all-you-can-eat stew, crackers, dessert and drinks, or purchase take-out quarts for $8 each, or four for $30.
Regular customers who buy multiple quarts are asked to bring their own boxes or coolers.
Everyone is asked to bring a can of food to support the food pantry operated by Manassas St. Thomas Church.
The stew and other festivities will be held near the corner of Nokesville Road and Fitzwater Drive.
Experience ghosts at Brentsville Courthouse
This is your last chance to experience the ghosts of Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre, which were recently featured on the TV show "Ghost Hunters."
Get inside the Brentsville jail and learn theories of paranormal activity Saturday.
Seminars run from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and investigations will be from 9 p.m. to midnight. The cost for the seminar is $40. The cost for both the seminar and the investigation is $100.

Linton Hall School to honor grandparents
Grandparents are special and students at Bristow's Linton Hall School will show that by celebrating Grandparents' Day Nov. 9.
Students may invite their grandparents to spend the afternoon and enjoy activities together.
There will be an old-fashioned 1950s ice cream social with '50s-themed student musical perform-ances. Students, faculty and grandparents are encouraged to dress up in 1950s attire.
About 150 grandparents attended the function last year.
The event will be held in the gymnasium from 1 to 3 p.m.
For more information, contact Jerry Barrett, the school's director of development, at 703-368-3157.
The school is located at 9535 Linton Hall Road.
