Commuter lot parking spaces to shift

Prince William County transportation officials have opened 365 new parking spaces at the Va. 234 / U.S. 1 commuter parking lot to make room for more cars.

The lot is undergoing a nearly $6.1 million expansion, and now the existing spaces in the old lot will be closed and new spaces on the expanded side of the lot will be opened, stated Prince William County transportation office spokesman Kattab Shammout in an e-mail.

Crews will do drainage work on the old side of the lot Monday, said Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission spokeswoman Christine Rodrigo in an e-mail.

Barriers will be erected to mark the closed spaces, and signs will be used to mark the changes in traffic patters, stated Rodrigo.

The change is not expected to affect OmniRide commuter bus service.

The project is expected to be completed in December.
