Neighborhood News: Library takes aim at record book
Published: October 30, 2009
Celebrate the anniversary of the Guinness Book of World Records at the Potomac Library on Nov. 7 at 2 p.m.—as well as the anniversary of the Potomac Book of Records' original contest.
All ages are invited to participate in library-based contests to create the Potomac Library Book of Records and a Wall of Fame in the Children's Department. The afternoon promises to be fun for the whole family as we learn about records and record breakers, take part in games and maybe even attempt some records of our own.
This free program is limited to 40 participants, so be sure to pick up a ticket in advance.
'Tween Zone
Join others at the Potomac Library on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. for a Diary of a Wimpy Kid Celebration. It's the release of the fourth book in the Wimpy Kid series by partying like Greg Heffley.
There will be games and activities, and maybe some jellybeans—if Fregley doesn't get them first. This program is part of the 'Tween Zone series of programs, all of which feature crafts, demonstrations and performers for students in fourth through sixth grades.
Please register by telephone or in person, as there is limited space. Please visit Potomac Community Library at 2201 Opitz Blvd. or call 703-494-8126 (voice); 703-494-8129 (TTY).
SAT, College Prep Town Hall Meeting
Prince William County Public Schools will hold an SAT town hall meeting for parents on Nov. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Freedom High School, 15201 Neabsco Mills Rd., Woodbridge. Presentations by local educators will be given on the college admissions process, the benefits of taking the PSAT, online and other resources to prepare for the SAT, and choosing between the SAT or ACT test.
Military Appreciation
Veterans and active duty military are invited to the Woodbridge Campus of Northern Virginia Community College, 5200 Neabsco Mills Rd., for Military Appreciation Day on Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the first floor atrium.
