REACTION ED: Readers react to Tuesday GOP election win

These are some of the online reader reactions to the Republican sweep of statewide offices in Tuesday’s election.

Congratulations to the entire Republican ticket. The Democrats are too busy blaming everyone else but themselves for the landslide Republican Victory.

While I am not sure Deeds was the man (I blame Democrats for not being able to come up with a viable alternative), I am wondering how long it will be before we figure out we have made a huge mistake
again by electing a Republican. Remember Jim Gilmore?

I was excited to see McDonnell and the Republicans win, but now they must perform. Furthermore, this election should serve as a wake up call for the Democratic Party as they try to push through
liberal, costly legislation. As an independent, I also blame the Republican Party for the mess we have in Washington and elsewhere. Had they stuck to conservative principles, not tried to legislate
morality, not been so hypocritical and not tried to be Democrats, we would not be in the mess we are in today with this administration and this Congress.

I am left wondering why local Democrats did not turn out for Deeds the way they did for Obama. Any thoughts?

I of course voted for Deeds, but really he never got on message. Too much time talking about what the other guy would or would not do and not enough time touting his own plan of action.

I talked to the Democratic poll workers as I was leaving and told them that Deeds would drag the whole Democratic ticket down. If you can’t get behind your top dog, why bother on the lieutenant governor
or attorney general positions?

His ideas may be outstanding, but his campaign hid the message. Perhaps a good local guy in small groups of people but not a statewide personality.

Virginia should be purple like all states; we should vote for the best candidates, not the ones who think they are the best because they think they have the best ideas, but ones who are willing to fight for
the people . . . and many of those people won last night.

The voting did not favor Republicans as much as it allowed a lot of people to show that they still do not accept the results of the 2008 presidential election.
