LETTER: Stop lying, Cal Thomas
In response to Cal Thomas’s Oct. 2 column “Deception,” I have many things to say.

LETTER: No more attacks in campaigns
I read in a recent paper how negative campaign tactics have already begun.
LETTER: Keep politics refreshing
The Republican candidate for the House of Delegates seat in the 51st District — Rich Anderson — and his staff deserve a round of applause.
LETTER: Paul Nichols for delegate
I was hoping that in these tough economic times campaigns would focus solely on the issues and not start slinging mud.
LETTER: Shame on the newspaper
Shame on you News & Messenger! As a taxpayer I find your opinion of the controversy over ACORN appalling.

LETTER: Our voices must be heard
Prince William County is updating the Environmental Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan now and I believe they need to hear our voices.

LETTER: Republicans are the problem
The inability of our transportation system to move people from one place to another in Northern Virginia is a seemingly intractable problem.
LETTER: Where are the facts?
Your editorial on ACORN was certainly provocative! Especially your implication that President Obama’s ties with ACORN tarnish his reputation and, even worse, could compromise his moral integrity.

LETTER: Cuccinelli for Attorney General
When Virginians pick their next Attorney General, they need to know more than just who will fight crime and who will help get the economy going again.
LETTER: Vote Democrat this November
Once again, Democrats have the best candidates. Why? because the old liberal labels no longer apply and have not for a very long time.
LETTER: No problem with PWCSA
I thought that a recent editorial by Michael Shannon was rather interesting. He blasts the Prince William County Service Authority for just recently allowing online bill paying.

LETTER: Irony behind Cantor’s words
On Sept. 21 Virginia Republican Eric Cantor held a town hall meeting during which a woman asked what he would do if he had a family member like hers that had lost her job and health care and then been diagnosed with tumors and in need of surgery.

LETTER: Wilson is no racist
I would like to express my outrage at the stupidity of the comments being made about Rep. Joe Wilson’s statement.
LETTER: Congressmen — a study in contrasts
I live in the 10th Congressional District, but am very close to the 11th CD and see the outreach efforts of each member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
LETTER: Flare-up compels reader response
I usually do not like to write campaign-related letters this early, but the developing “flare-up” in the race for delegate in the 51st District, my home district, has compelled me to do so.

LETTER: The public option is best
I have been doing some serious thinking about the health care act that is in Congress at the moment.
LETTER: No viable plan with McDonnell
Creigh Deeds is criticized for not specifying revenue sources for transportation improvements.
LETTER: BOCS did the right thing
There are many bad days for the animals that end up at the Prince William County animal shelter.
LETTER: Clarifying loitering letter
My letter about loitering published Sept. 9 piqued curiosity.
LETTER: Bolling arrogance was on display
It was pure arrogance for (Republican) Bill Bolling’s campaign to cancel his debate with (Democrat) Jody Wagner, ostensibly because they were concerned about someone using . . . OMG . . .VIDEO . . . to record what both candidates might actually say!

LETTER: On covenant marriage
A recent Washington Post article attacked a gubernatorial candidate’s advocacy of covenant marriage. What’s that?

LETTER: People are concerned
As evidenced by town hall meetings and marches on Washington, D.C., there is a significant concern among the electorate that our elected officials are not listening to us.
LETTER: No forced change
Several weeks ago the News & Messenger published my opinion letter about health care reform, which generated a lot of interesting discourse. One of the comments I heard from several of those opposed to reform is that they do not want to be forced into an insurance change.
LETTER: VA, not Virginia, hospitals
In my letter on health care, which was published on Sept. 14, I made reference to VA hospitals. This was somehow interpreted to mean Virginia hospitals.
LETTER: Give prisoners their books
This is in reference to an editorial put out by the News & Messenger on a program that gave free books to inmates. The program was discontinued.
LETTER: No more fast-food politics
As I read the posts on the health care debate an even bigger observation came to mind. At what point did we become a nation inclined toward “Fast Food” politics?

LETTER: Don’t tread on me, Connolly
First of all, I want to thank Honorable Gerald Connolly for his public service. While I might not agree with his political views I do appreciate his commitment to serving.

LETTER: Don’t let them do it
For a fistful of dollars the sellers of Chinese trinkets and trash will desecrate the resting place of tens of thousands of American patriots from North and South that died from terrific and painful wounds in hand-to- hand combat to preserve this nation.
LETTER: What media overlooks
On a regular basis, the News & Messenger regularly prints editorial articles and cartoons on pertinent issues, often ridiculing one view or the other, but doesn’t always print the real news to back it up.
LETTER: What’s the deal with laws?
Why is it that . . . if you cross the North Korean border illegally you get thrown into prison and sentenced to 12 years hard labor . . .
