A letter from Sen. Charles J. “Chuck” Colgan, D-Manassas, defending his votes for in-state tuition for illegal immigrants and his vote for a gas tax caught my eye. It was really an incredible letter.

Sunday evening I received an e-mail from Del. Robert Marshall, R-Prince William. He was, refreshingly, succinct and direct. “Well, Bruce, do you now believe me about HB 3202 being unconstitutional?”

PWC police Chief Charlie T.  Deane has stated that he needs $3.1 million to install cameras in all 250 to 270 vehicles and that would protect officers against accusations of racial profiling.

When I read Robert T. Molleur’s letter on March 5 describing liberalism as a “ mental disorder,” I was reminded of Harper Lee’s admonition in “To Kill a Mockingbird” that “It is never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is.”

Make no mistake about it, animal issues affect every person in this county whether you have a pet or not.

Gary Jacobsen’s article “The Crime Rate is Falling. Why?” invites explanations for a national violent crime rate that has supposedly been “in a freefall since about 1994.”

Well, I usually write to refute the rantings of Mr. Gary Jacobsen, but not today. But it’s springtime! The Potomac Nationals will be gearing up for another season at Pfitzner Stadium.

It would seem that Robert Molleur’s answer to the problem of illegal aliens is to smear those who disagree with him.

I have a concern about the impending Real Estate Tax increase of 28 percent. I am a senior citizen living on a fixed income without a COLA other than that provided by Social Security.

It turns out we went to war in Iraq for no real reason. We have been fighting there for five years.

During and shortly after the November election we were told by police that people would be questioned as to their legal status only if there was “probable cause.”

Finally Gary Jacobsen has a great idea — a sure way to reduce crime. 

I was appalled by the story on the expected salary increases for the Prince William County Schools’ Superintendent and his deputies entitled “Superintendent due for a $14,000 raise.”

Obama, a war supporter or a woman with White House experience? You choose.

As I have stated on many occasions with my opinions in the Manassas Journal Messenger, legal immigrants continue to champion the rights of those that are illegally in the country.

Prince William County is acting in a manner that is no longer fiscally responsible and is instead acting in the realm of “are you for real?”

WMAL radio reported this morning that Democrat Hilda Barg, formerly of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors is against any additional funding for the illegal alien “rule of law resolution.”

Could someone please explain to me why the school superintendent of Prince William County is proposing spending $28 million to build a new school (Nokesville Elementary) in a community whose projected growth doesn’t warrant the undertaking?

Several years ago, while I was a member of the Prince William Hospital medical staff, it was thought that the hospital should cease being independent. 

A good starting point in government budget matters is to be fiscally conservative. That means setting tax dollar spending priorities so that really essential services are first. Conservatives should demand this approach be applied in unison to all levels of government.

On the front page of the Web site for Manassas Public Schools last week there was a message directed to Comcast Cable Subscribers.

A recent letter to the editor by Samantha Ball of Manassas has finally sent me to the computer to write an e-mail.

This is in response to Mr. McCormick’s letter to the editor published on Feb. 27.

I vaguely recall an editorial column by the outspokenly ignorant individual Ken Concannon last week on the topic of education, wherein he presumptuously stated that “Brits are stupid.”

We pay taxes because when we share responsibility and pool our money together, we can afford things that we can’t pay for individually.

David Murphy wrote a letter to the editor on Feb. 6 stating that the Women’s Clinic in Manassas does more than just perform abortions.

Gary Jacobsen’s article regarding attendance at community colleges vs. four-year universities had a good point.
