LETTER: Americans must show solidarity

» 98 Comments | Post a Comment

Why aren’t Americans wearing green bands on their arms or in any other way showing support to the demonstrators who risk their lives on the streets in Tehran?

Why isn’t America celebrating the first steps of democracy and freedom in Iraq, Afghanistan and now in Iran?

Wasn’t the hope of bringing the wind of change one of the ideas why America’s soldiers are fighting in that region?

America has always been a symbol for democracy and freedom to the whole world, but there is hardly any sign of emotions when dictators fall and countries taste freedom and hold free elections for the
first time in their history.

I appeal to the News & Messenger to announce a week for showing our support to those who are being beaten and shot in the name of freedom on the streets in Tehran!

There is also McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond Virginia. It is 90 miles away. There is also a VA hospital in Washington DC. Glad to be of help. If you want to see the folks from Iraqi Freedom, most are at Walter Reed in the prosthetic ortho department. In the VA hospitals for the most part you’ll see Vietnam, Korea and WWII vets.

In fact, I would happily assist in this process.  Thank you for your input, Navy.  As I mentioned when we had dinner together, I know some people in this area who are involved with disabled veterans groups.  I already stand ready to help anybody posting here to get certified as a volunteer at Walter Reed.

I do hope the response does not overwhelm me < /snark >.

DO you know, Ray,

I thin you’re on to something here.  Not only would I have some respect for Pwanon if he’d actually volunteer his time to go to Walter Reed and learn what being in a war is all about;  I’d have respect for ANY Conservative posting to this honorable comments threads who did that.

As I’ve already noted, (and as always, I stand by everything I write) Conservatives love freedom so much they’re willing to let other Americans go uneducated, or die young of hunger and lack of medical care just to save themselves a few dollars in taxes. But they don’t love freedom enough to, you know, actually go and sign up for military service and put their butts on the line in a real war.

Seeing these freedom-loving Conservatives volunteer their time to help those who did put their butts on the line for our country would be a real way to show how much they love freedom.

I guess this discussion is now a mute point.

From the WP:  “Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) announced this afternoon she will resign from office on July 26 and return to private life, a stunning decision by last year’s Republican vice presidential candidate to leave office before the end of her first term.“

Let’s hope this is not another South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford situation.

“just, you know, that she billed them for sleeping in her own bed.“

Gay…taking a $60 per diem to cover travel expenses…that are actually saving the people of Alaska money, as she drives herself…is hardly “billing the people of Alaska for sleeping in her own bed”.

Only highly dramatic, highly dishonest fools like yourself attempt to make that leap.

And only a profoundly stupid person like yourself would consider that offering “proof” of such a ridiculous statement.

See, the fun part about killing you in these pages every day is that it’s rarely challenging, and an easy way to relax for those of us that have more important jobs than hammering nails into boards.

All I ever have to do is let you post…shred whatever you write by exposing your conjecture to the light of fact…and watch you stammer, stutter, and lie your way deeper into a sinkhole of dishonesty.

I guess it kind of makes me like Barry in one regard only:  we both enjoy making fun of the handicapped.

In order to make visitations one must call the hospital and request permission. In either case it is a matter of some paper work and two days of classes to become qualified. I volunteer my time and do magic at the VA in LA and am qualified. The folks really enjoy the company.

“She was working…and therefore taking a $60 per diem…from an office outside Juneau, which is in no way, shape, or form illegal or unethical.“

gerbil boy, I don’t recall saying Gov. Palin did anything “wrong” when she billed the taxpayers of Alaska for sleeping in her own bed - just, you know, that she billed them for sleeping in her own bed.

But you called me a liar and “demanded proof”.  I provided that proof, and instead of apologizing for calling me a liar, you back-pedaled and try to change the story line. Priceless.

But as you point out, it is a perk of the office that comes with having to serve at the capital while maintaining a home elsewhere.

So now I get to use your own words (again) to pop your balloons:

Tell me gerbil boy - how and in what way was President Obama traveling to New York with his wife, under the protective cover of the Secret Service - any different?

Does this not fall under the same grounds of having to be based in the capital?

If he should not leave Washington unless on “official business” then why should Palin be reimbursed for traveling on personal business?

And finally, can you point me to a past post of your where you screeched when Walker, Texas Ranger returned to Crawford to ride mountain bikes and drink non-alcoholic beer - all on Air Force One and every dime paid for by the taxpayers?

Your single-minded focus on having all GWB being righteous and all BHO being wrong is what makes you such an idiot - and so much fun to toy with.

Have a happy 4th of July.  Be sure your mom reminds you sparklers can burn before she lights yours.  You may be safer sitting on her lap watching the fireworks on TV.

“You might note the key words in this statement”

And…if you had an honest bone in your body…you might read beyond the first sentence of anything the MSM prints to find out the real story.

She was working…and therefore taking a $60 per diem…from an office outside Juneau, which is in no way, shape, or form illegal or unethical.

Over roughly two years, it came to about $17,000.  It cost us more than TEN TIMES that amount for Barry to take the other half of the “I hate America” duo to New York for two days.

I don’t recall you having any problem with that, though.  Hypocrite.

You also conveniently left out the fact that she sold the state’s plane (at a loss, but saving the taxpayers money nonetheless), got rid of the governor’s mansions private chef, flies coach when travelling, and drives herself to work.

Hardly fleecing the taxpayers, by any objective measure, as was your fallacious mischaracterization.

I would love to see Barry make even the slightest attempt to save the taxpayers…whom are about to feel the full brunt of his radical socialist tax agenda…any money.

Instead, we get to millions and millions for him to fly all over the world and trash the United States, and hundreds of thousands to take his America-hating wife to New York for a date.

But since you’re too stupid to read past the first sentence, you are…as usual…ignorant of the facts.

“Do this and you can snub your nose at Ron’s service and I’ll place you on par with those that have actually worn the uniform of our country.“

First and foremost, I’ve never snubbed my nose at Ron’s service.  I rip apart his opinions…voluntarily voiced in a public forum…for being baseless and bordering on lunacy.

Secondly, I’ll let you know when I care about your opinion of whether or not I’m worthy of voicing my support for our troops, or our mission in Iraq.

This is the part where I could go into a litany of different ways I’m supportive of our troops…but I won’t, simply because I don’t need to.

People voice opinions on these boards because they’re public forums.  Some people…like myself…post opinions that are actually factual in nature.

Others…like you…post opinions that are purely conjecture and rhetoric and…when all else fails…flat out lies.

Clearly you’re upset that I continually expose the garbage you slop together to support your opinions.  Perhaps…rather than complaining about it…you actually check a source or two before citing them to support the lies you manifest on these pages.

“Interesting.  What you call “needless adventure” is not what the majority of the troops I’ve talked to have said about it.  I’m glad you don’t esteem their efforts too highly.“

You know pwanon, you often proclaim yourself as a strong supporter of our troops.  In fact, as noted by Ron, you like to speak in terms of “we” in regards to the service of our brave men and women serving in combat.

I think there is a way you CAN serve and show your support - and in a more meaningful way than cheering them on from your Lazy-Boy recliner.

I would need some help from Navy on working out the logistical details on this one, but I suggest one way for you to support our troops is to visit them at Walter Reed.  Take a day a week or a few days a month and visit with our soldiers that have returned from combat.

Sit with them and listen to their stories, their dreams and their thoughts on their future.  Ask how you can help by supporting their plans to resume a normal life.

Do this and you can snub your nose at Ron’s service and I’ll place you on par with those that have actually worn the uniform of our country.

Navy - help me here - what does pwanon need to do to get started?

“In the meantime, still waiting for some citable, credible fact that Gov. Palin “charges” the people of Alaska “to sleep in her own bed.“

This is probably not considered “citable, credible fact” considering the source was campaign aides FOR Gov. Sarah Palin.  But if you want more, a simple Google search will provide hours of reading:

From the New York Times: “Responding to criticism from Democrats, campaign aides to Gov. Sarah Palin on Tuesday defended her practice of billing Alaska taxpayers for more than 300 nights she spent at home in her first year-and-a-half in office.“

You might note the key words in this statement “aides ... defended her practice of billing Alaska taxpayers for .. nights she spent at home ..“

Worse than calling someone a liar is to continue to call someone a liar once you’ve been proven wrong.

But that is what make you so entertaining.  I am not the only one that reads what you post here - most just ignore you as being irrelevant on any subject.
