LETTER: Americans must show solidarity

» 98 Comments | Post a Comment

Why aren’t Americans wearing green bands on their arms or in any other way showing support to the demonstrators who risk their lives on the streets in Tehran?

Why isn’t America celebrating the first steps of democracy and freedom in Iraq, Afghanistan and now in Iran?

Wasn’t the hope of bringing the wind of change one of the ideas why America’s soldiers are fighting in that region?

America has always been a symbol for democracy and freedom to the whole world, but there is hardly any sign of emotions when dictators fall and countries taste freedom and hold free elections for the
first time in their history.

I appeal to the News & Messenger to announce a week for showing our support to those who are being beaten and shot in the name of freedom on the streets in Tehran!

“willow - dictatorships, communist regimes, genocide etc. must be condemned and even overthrown”

So scorps, and your new BFF pwanon, how come GWB did not put 150,000 US troops into the regions of Africa where genocide is taking place?

Lack of oil reserves?  No personal vendetta?

“What’s this “we” stuff?“

Too funny.  You denigrate the brilliance of our military in achieving vitory in Iraq on an almost daily basis, and then wear your service on your sleeve when you have no argument.

What a clown.

Hey Peanut;

“We have kept millions more from being oppressed and murdered by telling innumberable regimes that it wouldn’t be tolerated.“

What’s this “we” stuff?  Seems to me, when the excretement hits the rotary air moving device, it’s the military that goes in and stops those innumberable regimes from oppressing and murdering their own people.

Are you a veteran?  Or do you just have a mouse in your pocket?

Freedom of religion does not go along with the Muslim political view , religion is part of their political life ,it is in their constitutions, even in the new Iraq constitution, freedom of religion does not exist . I will support any middle east country where the people support and the government protect the free practice of religion .

willow - dictatorships, communist regimes, genocide etc. must be condemned and even overthrown and I do not care what the Iranian fanatic president, who threatens to wipe out Israel from the world map, has to says. Plus he is saying America is meddling anyway…

Why would you care what that idiot has to say?

Or are you falling for Obama’s lame excuses for not speaking out in support of the pro-democracy Iranians.

Obama shouts where he should stay silent(abortion, gay issues, porn, debt, embryonic stem cells) and stays silent when he should speak out loud!

There wasn’t a White House Observance for the National Day of Prayer this year but there would be a celebration to commemorate the birth of the modern pro-gay movement.

I hear Ray and Ron are invited… lol

“Those who don’t know American history are doomed to forever misstate that history”

Indeed.  While you’re busy offering a revisionist history of the United States, you somehow failed to mention that we have liberated hundreds of millions of people, on every continent, over two centuries now.

We have kept millions more from being oppressed and murdered by telling innumberable regimes that it wouldn’t be tolerated.

Our words and actions used to be ones that inspired those in other nations to aspire towards freedom and liberty.

But now…with our Coward-in-Chief…we’re literally the last ones to offer even a token word of support, after justifying the actions of the Iranian government at the beginning.

See…the biggest problem with Democrats today is that they simply have no principles.  They think it’s insulting to others to proclain that…gasp…America is a great place.

They think it’s “bullying” to tell other countries that it’s wrong to conduct mass murder, kidnap, and rape.

They really stand for literally nothing, except those things with will make them less responsible, less accountable, and erase any expectation of greatness at any turn.

So that’s why they elected Barry the Betrayer…it’s been his forte for his entire adult life.

Could it be that we don’t want to lend credence to the claims that we are “meddling” in Iran’s internal affairs? And why single out the US? What about the European Union? What about all of those “democratic” Muslim nations?
Well, Europe has laws prohibiting “untoward” statements about Islam & the actions of Muslims and there simply aren’t any democratic Muslim nations.
“America has always been a symbol for democracy and freedom to the whole world,...“
Those who don’t know American history are doomed to forever misstate that history. From 1898 to 1941, the US did in the Philippines what the government of Iran is doing. It wasn’t & isn’t genocide, but for 400 years, Native Americans have been cheated & mistreated by a succession of local, state & federal governments. What symbol did we display to the Jews fleeing from Adolf Hitler?
The Monroe Doctrine prohibited other nations from interfering in the Americas, but didn’t stop the US from doing the same.
Like Br’er Rabbit, the US has smacked the tarbaby twice & is now stuck. Is our next move to smack the tarbaby again?

Funny that you support freedom in Iran - meaning a move from their strict religious-based government - while at the same time promoting that very same religious-based government system here in America.
