LETTER: Anderson ad did a service

» 6 Comments | Post a Comment

I just saw a TV ad for Del. Paul Nichols in which a jail cell door is closing on Rich Anderson after claims of wrongdoing. I immediately thought of the outcry that Paul Nichols made after an Anderson
campaign flyer was delivered. I must confess, at first I thought Anderson had pushed the envelope here, but after more research I believe Anderson’s campaign has done the 51st a great service.

Who in their right mind gets out of a second car, with the policeman outnumbered, and challenges an officer in the middle of a traffic stop? As Nichols’ story unfolds, there is an altercation between
himself and the officer, and Nichols ends up on the ground and under arrest. Ultimately, Nichols went to court, and the case was dismissed, but Nichols didn’t have a hearing where the facts proved him
innocent. He dodged a bullet; the case was dismissed on a technicality: The officer had left the force and was unavailable.

I then wondered how Anderson could be so careless as to release Nichols Social Security Number, and then I realized the SSN box on the report was blank! It was Nichols who revealed that his Driver
License number was the same as his SSN. Sheesh!

When Nichols’ ad hit, I thought, “Wait a minute.” Anderson reveals a real and true arrest record, however embarrassing, then, Nichols in a fit of rage, not having expunged his arrest record soon enough,
reveals his SSN to embarrass Anderson, and where does it end up? Nichols calls Anderson a criminal and slaps him behind bars in his ad!  Nichols has become (or was he always?) the scurrilous fellow
he accuses Anderson of being!

I believe the News & Messenger was hasty in asking for Anderson’s apology. Truth is truth, regardless of how painful. Mr. Nichols was arrested but never proved his innocence.

SpiderTingle:

Nichols is the one who said he got out of the car to confront the police officer.  That was in the article about the incident.

Nichols is also the one who waited until the arrest record was discovered and made public to come forward with his story.  When you hide things, sometimes only half the truth gets out, and you can’t blame someone else for it.

And the arrest record is a public record, and the SS number IS blank.  That’s not a lie, you can see the arrest record.

And while well-informed people know that in 2005, Virginia drivers license numbers were the SS number, most people don’t know that, most didn’t relaise the arrest was in 2005, and most people wouldn’t know the number was a SS number—until Nichols SAID it was his SS number.

So it appears that the letter is a statement of fact, as known from the article in the paper.

And it was quite funny that Nichols was actually arrested, and has an arrest record, but revealing that was somehow a “bad” thing;  but Nichols showing Anderson BEHIND BARS, as if he was already arrested and convicted, is supposed to be fair?

I defended Nichols when this story first broke, but Nichols has once again shown that he doesn’t deserve our support or our votes.  He brazenly lied in his race against Fasil Gil, leading this paper to endorse his opponent 2 years ago.  And now he blatantly lies about his current opponent, showing him behind bars.

Nichols is a lawyer, so you’d think he would know better.

Whitmore was not at the scene and has no idea what really happened.  Stop listening to gossip.

A person innocent unless proven guilty.

“never proved his innocence”

Guess Mr. Whitmore is part of the jihadist wing of the Republican Party. He certainly doesn’t hold American traditions and customs in his heart.

Well, well, well and now the truth comes out about Nichols. I always felt that Nichols was lying. Case dismissed. Of course with Ebert relaying the baton who knows how long they will fake out some of the voters.

Bjubba,

it is not up to Nichols to prove his innonce -  i it is up to the charging party to prove guilt first. The case went accoring to the law.  So what’s your complaint?  Not for law and order?

You obviously are an ignorant Republican.

With a Manassas address, do you even live in the 51st District? If not, it’s ot your concern.
