LETTER: Choice sends wrong message
Published: November 1, 2009
The News & Messenger’s endorsement pick for the 52nd District sends the wrong message to the public about tolerance for bias towards individuals.
Mr. Torian’s actions toward the NAACP and its panel selection were wrong. Mr. Torian does not represent the people with actions such as this.

Phdee,
For your information, your candidate, Luke Torian has been an affiliate of NAACP PWC Chapter for several years.
As a Pator, Torian has always embraced the NAACP. Now that Torian is attempting to merge from Pastor to a Politician, Torian wants to pull away from the NAACP.
So what does that tell you? IF Torian is elected to becomes the Delegate to represent the 52nd District, will Torian ignore the needs of his African-American constituents in the 52nd?
Now we all know the African-American vote will be important to Torian on Nov 3. But the overall question is, will he respond to their inquires or will he ignore them?
I can tell you firsthand, its not good to have a representative who is arrogant, mean-spirited and non-responsive towards their constituency. I personally experienced enough of those characteristic from our current Delegate!
That is what my vote will be based on when I enter the polls on Nov 3. But of course, Phdee, you probably don’t understand that, now do you?
Regardless of the organization be it NAACP or Committee for 100, bais towards anyone in the community or anywhere should be unacceptable at any level, especially for anyone seeking public office.
This likens to Gerry Connelly’s Fairfax county NAACP incident a few years back.
Is the NAACP the government in Dumfries?
What exactl;y is their official standing or role in the community?
