LETTER: Connolly’s hands help and harm

» 2 Comments | Post a Comment

I read with interest your June 15 article concerning Rep. Gerry Connolly and his concern for the troops that are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You note he has submitted legislation to help U.S. troops escape financial penalties while deployed, and he is outraged over monetary penalties these deployed
troops must pay. “It’s wrong and disrespectful.”

You also note that he has co-sponsored 15 bills about veterans issues since being elected to Congress. What you left out is that he’s the same Rep. Gerry Connolly that wants photos released that will put U.S. troops in harms way while deployed. This complete disregard for our deployed soldiers’ lives and safety, while trying to convince me he’s concerned for their welfare, is unconscionable. “It’s wrong and disrespectful.”

People also seem to forget that he works as a consultant for a defense contractor and doesn’t care about illegal immigration and its effects on legal immigrants and the job climate in this sour economy. LOL Chris Cummings

Ms. Skeele:

Thank you for your letter to set the record straight about Rep. Gerald Connolly. The various reporters for the Pot News in their haste to get out the story, failed on more than one occasion to conduct a complete coverage of a p[articular news event. This is a problem for the paper when you have reporters and members of their board who operate blog sites and use the Potomac News as a conduit for their political agenda. The paper often leaves out important facts and distorts the truth in an attempt to promote the political views of their blog friends and supporters.
