LETTER: Enough with the mud
Published: October 22, 2009
I read complaints from Democrats and liberals about negative political advertising but see little consistency in their views.
When they take the time to identify all candidates that use negative or attack ads to influence voters, then it will not be viewed as partisan.
I, too, would like to see advertising that focuses on issues and not misleading facts but that does not seem to the method for success.
I encourage the Deeds campaign and others to also stop finding negative things to say about the other candidate and provide voters with their plan for issues that resonate and are meaningful.
But I guess it is easier to attack others than provide your views so that you are held accountable once elected. Maybe we could give the Deeds campaign a Nobel Peace Prize if they stop the negative
ads today.

Yes, its sad candidates like Bob McDonnell and Rich Anderson have nothing of value to run on other than posting negative comments about their worthy opponents.
Who but a Bob McDonnell supporter would make fun of a person’s speech?
Do these same Bob McDonnell supporters mock our children with special needs?
McDonnell in fact has spent most of the campaign running away from himself!
How painful it must be to run a television ad like “Bob McDonnell’s beliefs that a woman should be kept barefoot, pregnant and baking cookies at home is out of touch with reality” then post the script “I am Bob McDonnell and I approved this message”.
It is impossible for me to enter a polling station and flip a lever for a mud-slinger like McDonnell or Anderson (whom I unfortunately won’t have the pleasure of not voting for) simply based on the fact they’ve run negative campaigns, showing they have nothing of value on their own to offer to the public.
