LETTER: Relieve Nichols of his duty
Published: October 31, 2009
I am so tired of politicians who make campaign promises and then vote completely contrary to those promises. Two years ago, Paul Nichols talked much about bringing Northern Virginia tax dollars back
to Northern Virginia. His big promise: to relieve the congestion on Interstate 95. Since his election, we hadn’t seen or heard from him again until this re-election campaign (stuck in traffic?). The good thing
for Paul is that he doesn’t have to come up with any new campaign promises since all his past promises still remain to be fulfilled.
In the seven years I’ve known him, I have noted that Rich is a man who says what he means and does what he says. From the outset Rich told me that he was determined to talk with as many Prince
William County residents as possible. At last count he has knocked on over 23,000 doors. I am sure more people have seen Rich over the last eight months than have seen Paul Nichols since he entered
office.
Rich has dedicated his life to serving his country. Veterans know that nobody ever got rich in the military and that life is about more than themselves. Learning these truths comes at a great price: family
separations, remote postings, and incredibly long hours, to name a few. Rich has shown that he will sacrifice much in order to serve his country.
I’ve read all the accusations the Nichols campaign has thrown at Richard Anderson and it only confirms what I’ve known for a long time … if the Nichols campaign can’t find something true to say they’re
more than willing to make something up. It’s time Paul got relieved of duty and we put someone in the House who will actually work for the people of Prince William County.

Mr. Phdee,
I must say after months of reading your continuous negative and venomous comments directed at Rich Anderson, his campaign and his honorable military service that I am amazed that you even managed to sink even deeper into your level of complete and utter ignorance of military service for our country and the sacrifices made for all those who cherish Freedom. I say to you …thank god for the First Amendment, which gives all of us but in this case… yourself… the absolute ability to come across as a total and absolute jerk while proving your foolishness… with both feet in your mouth.
I, like tens of millions of other Americans, have served our great nation in the military. You have managed to belittle and insult each and every one of them with a level of ignorance that is staggering and equal to that of Jane Fonda.
I have been privileged to work with and assist Veterans from coast to coast…Iraq vets to World War II…I met with both young men and women service members at Walter Reed who are missing arms, legs, fingers, eyes or other parts of themselves left on the field of battle for all … including people like you.
Never did I ask any of them as to whether they served in direct combat or not, as a measure of their service. The point with them is that they served.
Whether it is Paul Nichols, a Democrat or Rich Anderson, a Republican or for that matter anyone else who takes the time, effort or sacrifice of their personal lives to serve and try to help others … my hat is off to each of them. I may not vote for either candidate but at least they have both personally stepped up and given something of themselves for the betterment of our people and our county. This is much more than many, many others never do.
I am sorry about your father… I truly am Sir. Whatever has caused this bitterness in your life and your world that you strike out with such a level of vileness… I hope you find solace at some point.
With warmest regards,
Steve Botello
Talbot and Anderson must be drinking buddies from the military. Talbot posted:

Nobody maybe got rich like CEOs and Wall Street execs., but the military pay plus benefits is the most fabulous, generous, and excessive the govt offers.
Free medical care, great pay, fabulous housing allowances, subsistence allowances, clothing allowances, recreation, military hospitals, all kinds of discounts, taxpayer subsidized commissaries (reduced grub), PX’s, taxpayer subsidized booze stores, clubs, retirement, annual govt pay raises, training, unlimited paid sick days, 30 days paid vacation etc etc—- the list is infinite. All mostly at taxpayer expense, i.e. a little bit of socialism.
People like Anderson make the military a career because of the benefits. I otice he does not claim any combat in 30+ years service. Snall town National Guard get that job —theymoined the guard to earn extra money also, thinking no combat, just local crisis stuff. Boy, did Bush fool them.
Then, upon retirement, the military become “experts” on civilian life. Or so they tell us. Even are experets on unions and right-to-work (for less).
Sure, the military has to move around, but so do migrant workers. And so do lots of ordinary Americans.
Now how many Americans hold jobs with such a fabulous benefit package? Few. Folks complainabout the unionized auto worker with a $25 hourly wage. Yet that $25 covers EVERY PENNY spent on the wokers employment. How much PER HOUR does it cost for a service member? Answer: probably no one knows, but it has to be staggering.
My father made less on SS monthly than a typical military officer getstax free for HOUSING allowance, and my father had to live TOTALLY off SS—and he had to work hard to earn the SS, notsome fluff job like missile silo management or breathing.
So buddies, go to the officer’s club and soak up a subsidized drink and talk old soldier tales.
Everyone else, go vote for Nichols.

Another ringing endorsement by a Republican as to why we should support Democrat former Major John Bell over Bob Marshall.
John Bell has a great deal of military experience - see the above endorsement of all the great attributes of military service - while Bob Marshall did not serve.
This clearly makes John Bell the candidate of choice in the 13th District.
