LETTER: Thank you to Rafael Lopez

On Thursday, Oct. 8,the NAACP conducted the first of two events featuring candidates for delegate in this year’s election. We held the first at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Triangle. The host, Pastor,
Dr. Alfred Jones Jr. and the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church family, were extremely welcoming to the community, the NAACP and all participants. We can’t thank them enough.

Originally we had scheduled this event as a debate between the two candidates for delegate in the 52nd District. Regrettably, only one candidate accepted our invitation. The NAACP would like to publicly
express its gratitude to Mr. Raphael Lopez, the Republican candidate, for his willingness and eagerness to participate. His participation showed his respect and appreciation for the more than 100 years
the NAACP has been advocating civil and voting rights within our community and across this nation. He did not make excuses but rather cleared his schedule to enable us to sponsor the event.

He emphasized his commitment to servicing the constituents of the 52nd District and allowed them to get to know him and what he stands for.

There were over 40 attendees who listened as he candidly stated his position on an array of issues; he answered questions posed by our three panelist and the audience at large. The forum focused on
the issues that affect the constituents of the 52nd District.

Mr. Lopez was forthright about his proposed solutions and expressed his concerns about issues. Should Mr. Lopez be elected as the representative for the 52nd District to the Virginia House of
Delegates, he pledged to work for all of the people, to work across party lines and be their voice in Richmond.

The next NAACP political event will focus on the 50th District with incumbent Jackson Miller and candidate Jeanette Rishell. It will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the First AME Church, 10313 S. Grant
Ave, Manassas, VA 20110.

“To bad the Pastor thought he was above showing up.“

In the political arena, we call not showing up “pulling a Jackson Miller”.

Great for Mr. Lopez in keeping his committment to show up for a Debate.
It shows he will be a good leader and listen to the people.
To bad the Pastor thought he was above showing up. Perhaps he needs to keep on Pastoring and leave the Politics to others who can handle it.
I hope the Pastor doesn’t feel like he has all the votes he needs,as that is not what makes a good representive.
Lopez needs you Vote.
