LETTER: Thanks to Del. Paul Nichols

» 2 Comments | Post a Comment

On Tuesday, the residents of the 51st District made their choice for the Virginia House of Delegates. When the results were tallied, Del. Paul Nichols was defeated by a slim margin.

Del. Nichols had been a successful businessman and award-winning attorney in Lake Ridge for many years. But once he answered the call to public service, he took to the task of serving his constituents
with the same energy and enthusiasm he had applied to his business and legal careers. He worked hard to improve life for the residents of the 51st District and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Those of us who know Paul Nichols will really miss his presence in Richmond — we know how hard he worked to do the right thing for his constituents, and to make Prince William County and Virginia a
better place in which to work and raise our kids. We know how dedicated he was to the idea of bringing Metro to Woodbridge, and to the preservation of public education, both critical priorities to him.

So thanks, Paul Nichols, for the service you have given us.  In the process you maintained your principles and your decency, and we applaud you.

Scorpio,

I still do not quite understand why you are bringing up an incident introduced during an election that has now passed and has been decided.

You obviously have no respect nor consideration for Del. Paul Nichols since you are not thanking him for his service to the residents of the 51st Virginia House of Delegates District.

Del. Nichols has worked hard for the residents of this district and has during the course of his re-election offered constructive ideas and solutions to many of the problems and issues facing 51st District residents.

If this is the only impression you have of Del. Nichols then perhaps you do not have to sit in traffic for hours on I-95 during your commute to work. Or perhaps you are not concerned about the quality of education your children (if you have children) are receiving in Prince William County. Perhaps you are not one of the homeowners facing foreclosure and perhaps you are content with your present quality of life in Prince William County.

Perhaps you have nothing else better to think about or to occupy your time with than to bring up an incident which had no bearing whatsoever on the the performance of the duties of a Delegate representing the 51st District in Richmond.

I still do not quite understand how an attorney gets out of his car during a traffic stop and comes to a point of being arrested.

One thing I am sure of is that as an attorney Paul Nichols surely knows how to get out of a situation like this and to negotiate with the authorities to drop the charges.
