LETTER: Vets support Anderson

» 3 Comments | Post a Comment

I read with some interest the Sept. 23 article, “Vets’ group forms to support Nichols.” According to the article, Del. Nichols was a co-sponsor of the “Military service personnel bill of rights,” which means
that he just lent his name to the bill. Again, according to the article, the bill did not even make it out of committee. It must have been written by another lawyer in “mumbo-jumbo.” A lot of the
aforementioned bill is already law, so who is Nichols kidding?

If you like what Obama and the Democrats are doing to this country, then vote for the status quo. In just one alarming example, read HB 1388 where your government spent $20,000,000 of your money to
move members/supporters of Hamas, a terrorist organization, to the United States, with housing, food — the whole shebang.

If you want a delegate who will work for you to protect your civil and veteran rights, then Rich Anderson is your man. Rich is compassionate and a good listener. He believes that government is too big and
is wasteful of taxpayer money.

Rich Anderson has the credentials to support his candidacy as delegate of the 51st District. Not only is he a 30-year Air Force veteran, but while serving in the military he gave many years of voluntary
service in the USAF Aux (Civil Air Patrol). Their mission is threefold: Air Search Rescue (looking for downed aircraft and missing persons); the Cadet Program (mentoring young boys and girls to become
pilots and good citizens); Aerospace Education (some of these young people are now astronauts). Rich became USAF Aux National Commander and earned the rank of general. This experience, fully
qualifies Rich to be the next delegate from the 51st District.

As a veteran, past state vice-commander of the American Legion and a life member of the VFW, I have fought vigorously for maintaining veterans’ rights. I ask all, especially military veterans, to support
Rich Anderson. Call me (703-659-1461) and let us form an all-star veterans group for Rich Anderson

Xanadu:

Boy, you sure said it correctly.

I too am a veteran, and believe it or not I am also an American Legion member. (I don’t know why - really.)

The American Legion and VFW do not speak for me either—and no one asked my opinion either.

The Legion has other types of members other than those loitering, drinking, and telling war stories.

Lots of Legion members served (drafted) in the military, got dischared, and when they got old and worn out, and probably acquired ailments, thought the country owned them something for their service. The biggest accomplishment for these individuals was knocking up a PX clerk or serving in the mo’ pool. Now they talk benefits.

These individuals remind me of the old Soviet Union workers who today long for the days of communism, where everything was state planned, pensions given, health care, living quarters, etc.

I have found - from family members especially - that those who saw the horrors of combat and camps don’t care to talk about it, nor did they acquire a habit of drinking cheap booze.

And old soldiers did not talk strictrly about war stories.  Usually it was benefits.

And then they allege socialism is coming.

By the way, in case anyone should ask, I have NEVER asked for nor rceived any benefit from military service.  I never felt the country OWED me anything.  It was my duty and privilege to serve. I guess I’ll get a flag and grave marker when I pass on.

If you want someone with absolutely no experience as a small businessman…

If you want someone that has only offered solutions straight down from the State-wide republican ticket that will not fix problems here in Woodbridge…

If you want someone that has to resort to negative campaigning to win instead of talking about the issues…

Vote for Rich Anderson.

I’m a veteran, and no one asked me what I thought of Rich Anderson. Also, the American Legion and the VFW do not speak for me or for most other veterans (they are basically old codgers who sit around meeting halls, drinking beer and swapping war stories.)
