LETTER: What about the devout Christians?
Published: June 23, 2009
I have a question for the News & Messenger: Have you ever used a headline to identify a crime victim as “a devout Christian?”
Just Curious.

Editor’s Note: This letter refers to the story “Mother: Shooting victim a devout Muslim.”
The letter was about 35-year-old William Andersen, one of two shooting victims at the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission’s bus terminal
Monday morning.

“how does that “justify my hatred of gays”?“
My point exactly that it does not justify your hatred of gays.
You’re the one that opened the can of worms and brought all the statistics into play.
I merely pointed out that the numbers don’t justify your position.
Personally, I think you don’t like gays because your cult leader is telling you not to like gays - and everything else is meaningless ballooney in an attempt to justify your position without bringing your cult religion into it.
As the facts don’t support your statements - balloons are popped.
Yes, having unprotected sex is an at-risk behavior. Ask Bristol Palin.
In the grand scheme of life, we have a lot more things to be concerned about: smoking, drinking, eating Twinkies, driving and going to the hospital.
If you are concerned about saving lives, focus on those with heart disease.
If your focus is on your hatred of gays, then call it like it is and tell us why - no beating around the bush on easily discounted “facts”.
“Which is it:“
The studies show it is a combination of the insecurities of teenagers AND the abuse imposed on them by churches that attempt to tell an otherwise normal child they are somehow abnormal for their genetic makeup.
We know this “normal” to be true because James Simpson said God knows you and your destiny BEFORE He forms you in the womb.
Yet you say God has no power over us once we’re born.
Oh - the conflict, and the associated lack of a response on your part.
Stumped again I see ...
“a positive for the Obama Administration that they are trying to keep parents in their current job - and avoiding relocation to a new town”
The Obama administration will help families a lot more if Obama would leave alone the current child tax credit that GW Bush increased from $300 to $1000 per child.
Instead Obama is cutting it in half to $500 starting next year.
Listening and understanding is indeed very important when it comes to kids.
What is even more important is telling them it is NOT OK to experiment with the same sex! Or with drugs, or alcohol… as some of your liberal-speaker buddies are doing in public schools!
Ray - if homosexuals, who are a tiny 1-3 percent of the population, make 53% of all AIDS cases - how does that “justify my hatred of gays”?
What does siucide among teenagers, which has to do with the frailty of that growing stage, has to do with the negative and even deadly consequences of a perverse lifestyle you try to justify? Or car accidents?
Have you totally lost your mind already you do not know what you are talking about anymore, you liberal moron?
Which is it:
churches have to embrace and thus push more victims into a vile, perverse, deadly homosexual lifestyle
or
end of lying and promoting homosexuality as normal that will decrease the numbers of these fatal statistics?
willow - you spoil all the fun in the dialogue.
Of course “ballooney” is not a greek word.
And, of course, milk comes from cows… or sheep… or goats…
Or, in Ray’s case - from under the bull!
scorps, here’s another look at teen suicide.
From MSNBC: “Psychologists have known for years that moves can be distressing for kids. But a new study shows that the impact on some adolescents may be far more devastating than anyone thought. The study, published in the Archives of Psychiatry, found that kids aged 11 to 17 were twice as likely to attempt suicide if their families moved three or more times compared to those who had never moved.“
Stefan, perhaps you should start an anti-move group for parents of teenagers. Oh the moral sickness of people who relocate.
And certainly a positive for the Obama Administration that they are trying to keep parents in their current job - and avoiding relocation to a new town.
It seems listening and being understanding to young kids is the most important thing adults can do.
Another strike against your hate-filled agenda…
scorpio,
“milk comes from the grocery!“ ?!?!
“now you make me wonder what planet you come from arguing, ... the intelect of sheep…“
Makes me wonder what planet you come from from, scorpio, seeing that you don’t know that the milk in the grocery comes from a cow. There are dairy farmers in the area, you should go to the source.
I don’t know the level of intellect possessed by sheep, but I do know that it is enough so that they don’t just blindly walk over the edges of cliffs.
I don’t know if there are any sheep farmers nearby, but there plenty in Idaho. If sheep routinely followed each other over the cliff, these operators would not have the money to hire Basques & Portuguese, to lead solitary lives for months at a time, to watch over flocks of several thousand sheep each.
scorps, here’s some numbers for you to ponder and try to spin to justify your hatred of gays:
631,636 Americans die from heart disease each year.
15,244 Americans die from AIDS - with only about 53% of those in the gay population.
Kinda not even close. But wait - there’s more:
45,000 Americans die in auto accidents each year - three times the number of AIDS deaths and roughly six times the number of gay related AIDS deaths.
Do you recommend we all park our cars and stop driving? After all, driving is more dangerous than having sex.
Suicides: The rate of suicides among the American population is 11 per 100,000.
The rate of suicides among our American military population is 20 per 100,000 - almost twice as many.
Do you recommend we close down the military to prevent suicides?
See pwanon’s little angle, you can’t just cherry-pick your facts. When you open a can of worms, all the worms come out, including those that destroy your case.
Of course the correct answer to the above questions is better understanding, better education and better protection for those at risk - which is why cars have seatbelts and air bags.
Educate those at risk on condom use and AIDS cases will drop.
Ask Churches to quit sending their message of hate towards gays and promote acceptance and gay suicides will drop.
Get our military men and women the counseling they need and military suicides will drop.
I’ll venture an opinion that if we only go to war when necessary - and go with a plan to win and get home, military suicides will also drop.
Scorpio, still looking for the answer to my question:
James Simpson says God knows your destainy when He creates you. You say God has no control (shooting down prayer theory) once you are born.
Please answer when you and pwanon are through playing your ‘whose head goes deeper’ game.
So scorps, you’re asking Raymonda to prove that something written in the bible didnt happen? so to prove a negative? as ive said before the bible has awesome messages and teachings, however, it was written and translated (over and over) by man. there a bound to be deviations from the original. the bible can be used for good but also for bad. the bible has been used as justification for wars, slavery and general nastiness. there are great lessons “love thy neighbor” “i am my brothers keeper” etc etc etc. but when people use it as the “basis” for their hate than it truly cheapens the work. when some outside party hears hatefilled people quoting the bible they begin to view the bible in a lesser light. If you and your ilk truely believed what you say you do you would stop using biblical “basis” for your rants. The irony of it all is you cheapen that which you claim to worship.
