LETTER: What about the devout Christians?

» 38 Comments | Post a Comment

I have a question for the News & Messenger: Have you ever used a headline to identify a crime victim as “a devout Christian?”

Just Curious.

KAREN TORRES

Manassas

Editor’s Note: This letter refers to the story “Mother: Shooting victim a devout Muslim.”

The letter was about 35-year-old William Andersen, one of two shooting victims at the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission’s bus terminal
Monday morning.

“which, in it’s author’s words, was “fiction” - even though the first chapter starts with the word “Fact”, and was based on false agnostic writings and relying on sensation and stirring of emotions and reactions”

Now if this isn’t the pot calling the kettle black I don’t know what is.

scorpio - the purveyor of fiction posing as fact.  Gotta love it when the shoe’s on the other foot.

“I refuse to allow Conservatives to dominant the conversation”

Hmm… I didn’t know “dominant” could be used as a verb…

Kind of strange coming from someone who takes enourmous pleasure in ridiculing other people’s spelling…

One has to be blind (or biased) to deny the assault on Christianity by the liberal media, Hollywood, the ACLU…

Hollywood did not want to hear about Mel Gibson’s “Passion of Christ” which was made based on historical and biblical evidence.

But they immediately jumped on the idea of filming the “Da Vinci code” book which, in it’s author’s words, was “fiction” - even though the first chapter starts with the word “Fact”, and was based on false agnostic writings and relying on sensation and stirring of emotions and reactions in order to turn it into a money maker.

Hollywood hardly makes a movie without Jesus’s name being mentioned - only it is not mentioned in prayers but in the most outrageous way.

Have you noticed that Hollywood never mentions the name of Budha, or Allah, or any other god in that way?

I take my hat off to the handful of actors who choose not to take part in certain movies.

Jim Caviezel was asked whether he realizes he may never again be offered to take part in another Hollywood produced movie after he played Jesus in the “Passion of Christ”.

For years I had thought that Stephen Baldwin was the black sheep in the Baldwin family - then I heard about the Breakthrough Ministry and his transformation.

Visit his website and read the first chapter of his book.

“Ron, is your hatred for God and everything Christian so immense that keeps you awake and posting sarcastic comments before 5.00 AM?“

No actually.  My day starts early and ends late, a fact of hard work.  I’ve kept this schedule for most of the past 40 years.  I post comments here, sarcastic and otherwise, because I refuse to allow Conservatives to dominant the conversation.  And because I enjoy shooting fish in a barrel (speaking literally, of course).

In my experience, people who work hard don’t have time to pass judgments on the moral and religious character of others.  You may want to try it (hard work).

His mother said he was a devout Muslim. The question is: What did his being a devout Muslim, Christian, Buddhist or even an atheist have to do with his being shot? If the article didn’t answer the question - and it doesn’t appear that it did -  it is simply a matter of poor editing, which should have been acknowledged by said editor.

Thank you Ms Torres!

And let the wingnut brigades go (more) berserk over your simple question.
