LETTER: Why does F.A.I.R. deserve credibility?

» 23 Comments | Post a Comment

I was surprised the News & Messenger would headline a recent “study” by F.A.I.R. on the costs of undocumented immigrants in Virginia (June 25).

By virtue of the headline, the paper gave instant credibility to the numbers in the study. F.A.I.R. is as biased as other extremist groups in making up statistics, taking others out of context, forming
unfounded conclusions and otherwise serving as a lobby group for their causes.  The article did point out that the Southern Poverty Law Center characterizes F.A.I.R. as a “hate group.”

The June 20, 2007 report by President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers concluded that taken together, immigrants contribute a net of $30 billion a year to the U.S. economy.  Perhaps President
Obama and the current Congress can come up with some rational long-term solutions to this matter.

Wasn’t even a country?  How ignorant. It was a country of Indians.  Maybe the Europeans didn’t know about it, but it existed. There are lots of civilizations in North, Central and South American that are very ancient.

Where did yhou study world history?

If borders weren’t open, then how did the “settlers” (illegal immigrants) get in?  Answer:  same as now.

Stop trying to “explain away” that which is factual.

illegal immigrants? dont think their were any back then since this wasnt even really a country. your argument alludes to an open borders policy and that is just hideous. again, you want it fine..but stand in line and stop cheating the system like they currently do.

The US was founded by illegal immigrantsl the native Americans were already here. Slavery was also illegal immigrants. Forget those niceties describing US history—tell it like it is.  It’s your heritage; fiction and make believe is not a genuine part of it.

illegals have no right to be in this country taking advantage of all we have to offer. If they want to be here, stand in line and immigrate legally…thousands of people do it every year.

F.A.I.R. is just doing the job that pro-illegals won’t do. Thank goodness!

I knew phdee would twist it around and claim that ching hates immigrants when he has spelled it out a million times to phdee that he is talking about criminals <illegals> not immigrants of which we all are. Why did SPLC classify F.A.I.R as a hate group? You still haven’t or can’t answer the question. Most of us know that SPLC is a biased self interest group like La Raza, Mecha, MWB, etc. Incidentally i am not racist because i hate all hate groups like the Nazis, KKK, Black panthers, Aryan Nations, so to call me racist is like saying phdee is knowledgeable about the subject. My ancestors came here legally, fingerprinted, documented, paid their fees, did yours??? Probably not. Glad the Recession is hitting the construction and fast food industry hard. Glad to see the free ride people suffering. Time for legal immigrants to collect more of those jobs. It’s good to see illegals calling home begging for money, next step outta here. Happy 4th of July to all legal immigrants and native citizens, everybody else GTH and drop dead. LOL Chris Cummings

ZXC:

You are against the SPLC because you are a racist.  You’ve got to recognize your mental state.

ching-chang-chung is parroting the usual hate of immigrants.

As for schools, he is so out of knowledge that he doesn’t know the courts ruled the immigrant kids have to be educated. Ching-chang-chung is obviously against law and order and obeying the law.

By and large, the immigrants do do the jobs Americans won’t. How many Americans pick vegetables, gut pigs, gut chickents, work construction, etc.  Ching0chang0chunbg just does not understand how the labor market functions. There is nothing new with today’s immigrants than in the past.

The “sins” ching-chang-chung and cohorts whine about - like overcrowding, multiple cars, garbage,  etc - are ironically in today’s economic meltdown happening among Americans. Man has to survive - and everyone becomes “creative” in a similar manner. Prejudice against immigrants has always been part of thre US bigotry.

the whole “doing the jobs americans wont do” is a crock. it’s the same argument, just in a different place. actually the unemployment is hitting the illegals too, more of them hanging out on street corners than ever. maybe they’ll get tired of it and move back to where the came from. guess illegals dont cost us a thing: they dont get free medical (in the hospitals they overcrowd), they dont create identity theft, the list goes on. If illegals are such a great help, why are WE paying to send their children to our already overcrowded schools? imagine schools were teachers were not overworked with teaching illegals, they could turn that attention to people that really have a right to be here.
