Pay attention to yourself Mr. Reynolds

When Gregg Reynolds (Thanks to all of those standing against hate, May 20, Potomac News) says that Greg Letiecq of Help Save Manassas “....goes on to assassinate the character of some members of our community,” he ought to pay more attention to his own words. What he offers in his most recent personal diatribe against Greg Letiecq is nothing more than an effort to shut down the debate about illegal immigration with hate and intimidation.

His personal attacks speak nothing of public policy options, chart no new course to help reduce the number of illegal aliens unlawfully residing in our communities, but only seek to demonize an honorable man. His irresponsible tirade is exactly the kind of behavior he should be condemning.

Greg Letiecq’s efforts to advocate for policies to gain some degree of control over the illegal immigration problem have saved county taxpayers millions of dollars, rescued numerous communities from blight and lawlessness, improved public safety and reduced overcrowding in emergency rooms across the county.

A year ago, county residents were in despair about rampant residential overcrowding, illegal aliens contributing to over 50 percent of the murder rate in the county and other problems associated with illegal aliens. In one year, that has dramatically changed. I daresay few have ever contributed more positively to the welfare of our county.

Gregg Reynold’s message of ignoring the problem of illegal aliens has been soundly rejected by the voters and in multiple unanimous votes by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

Now that the illegal alien lobby has realized their message won’t win, they start personally attacking those people who promoted different policies and tried to ruin them with outrageous lies and irresponsible cries of racism. This outrageous behavior by Gregg Reynolds, driven by his irrational hatred of Mr. Letiecq is beneath whatever shred of dignity this newspaper retains.

Finally, as sanctuary jurisdictions such as Arlington County contemplate starting their own Help Save Arlington due to the growing influx of illegal aliens from Prince William County, I wonder whether Gregg Reynolds will dispel the same ravages of hate towards his fellow liberals as he’s bestowed on Mr. Letiecq.

Great response by allisonkipp. Only a few questions:  One, how are you going to pay for your program?  Two, how long will it take to implement your “reasonable dialogue? And Three, what will you do in the meantime? Does PWC continue to suffer from all the ails HSM rags about or do you step up and offer something that will solve these issues? Nice try with a new name Chris, but your “send them all home Right Now” program is still a failure.

Great letter, Robert. Thank you for standing up for the actions of Help Save Manassas and our BOCS.

I am a proud member of Help Save Manassas and a proud supporter of the rule of law resolution. The BOCS have given me faith in politicians - democracy in action!

Help Save Manassas and everything it represents is not nativist just because a local woman contacted the Southern Party Law Center and asked them to brand Greg Letiecq a nativist (and by association, Help Save Manassas).

Just because people spoke about BVBL at citizen’s time doesn’t mean it is a documented toxic website. For toxicity, I invite people to view the antibvbal website where there is slander, libel, and defamation of character of our elected leaders on a daily basis.

The law is the law and it cannot be argued - so the pro-illegal crowd cries nativism, xenophobia, racism, etc… They have no valid points to make.

Reasonable dialogue should consist of helping the illegal aliens return to their home countries to apply for citizenship in the legal manner.

Illegal aliens chose to come here - they are responsible for their own actions. The BOCS and Help Save Manassas are not responsible for their illegal behavior and their wanton disregard for the laws of this country.

God bless America!

kgot, a very simple explanation. The letter did not make sense the first time so they posted it again to see if it improved at all.  We can expect a third posting Monday as right now its 0 for 2.

Why is this letter posted twice online, one after another?  Error?

Nothing in Mr. Reynolds’s letter indicated hatred of Mr. Letiecq.  The author of this letter obviously knows this because he doesn’t provide one quote to support that allegation.  Mr. Reynolds was referring to hateful actions that hurt groups of vulnerable people.  These actions and the toxic website BVBL were documented at more than one BOCS meeting during Citizen Time.

Too many people have been insulted, threatened, ridiculed, and harassed by Mr. Letiecq and his closely knit clan; these include people of different religions, the elderly, the disabled, minorities, and those of various sexual orientations.  The most recent scare from BVBL is an open season brag session of firearm usage by him and others.  Because of his own actions, Mr. Letiecq has a long list of complaints submitted to the police.

This is the kind of behavior Mr. Reynolds is decrying—not rational discussion of problem solving in our county.

Furthermore, if you attended the discussion on immigration at George Mason University yesterday, you will note that Mr. Letiecq does not hold any record for promoting dialogue. In fact, many other larger, better educated, and more constructive groups have done so and continue to do so throughout this state and others.

It’s unfortunate our county chose to listen to a hateful, small group associated with BVBL, nativists, and FAIR (a noted hate group) when there are more effective and positive leaders within our communities.  We can only hope the BOCS will come to its senses and realize they have taken policy from a less-than-credible and far-less-than benevolent source.
