There is not enough room for all to come

In Wednesday’s edition, the Potomac News had three letters about illegal immigration.

Lisa Johnson-Firth of the Immigration & Human Rights Law Group had a predictable position given the name of her group and seems to want to ignore existing federal immigration laws rather than enforce or replace them. As for me, I don’t see much wrong with lowering what we pay for education because as illegal aliens leave the county, it means more funding for other students and other needs. With respect to families being broken up, those acts are not on the Board of County Supervisors for enacting local actions to enforce national laws but on the lawbreakers themselves. As for “loving thy neighbor,” I love my neighbors when they’re neighborly, but I get a little torqued when my neighbors encroach on my house/nation.

William Westhoff also wrote, but I don’t know if we were at the same meeting. This was my first venture to a BOCS meeting and I was impressed by how respectful almost everyone was. The notable exceptions I remember were the gentleman that told everybody to stand up and a lady at the beginning that was sharply adamant against the PWC position. There was no “vile castigation” towards
Supervisor Frank Principi and almost all the citizens were anything but obnoxious.

The third letter was by Michael Hogan. I’m not for handing out guns and while he raised some legitimate issues, the letter’s tone was too harsh for me.

The first act of those who come to America should not be a conscious effort to break our laws. Those who come to America legally can be guests or legal residents and may turn out to be future
Americans, but those who sneak in illegally do not and should not have the full rights of citizens, native or naturalized.

Being an American is a fortunate privilege and while it would be nice if all six billion of our neighbors could enjoy America as we do, the fact is there just isn’t room and we have the right and responsibility to determine who we admit and under what circumstances.

RonCharest i consider your racist reply laughable. I will still follow the law and could care less if you do or not. Of course i understand that immigration requirements were different back then. But they still documented who you were and where you were going thus making them legal citizens in my eyes as well as my grandparents. You were born here legally to legal parents so i don’t see what your argument is and how it pertains to anchor babies. I am talking about these people crossing our borders from any country without telling anyone or overstaying their work visas. I consider it the height of hilarity considering the relationships i have had and my family has had and the friendships i currently have for you to conceivably call me a racist, for it is you that is obviously discriminatory against legal immigrants. Cobra, you assume too much.  I’ve never advocated anything of the sort.  I’m merely pointing out the hypocrisy of you calling PhDee a racist when you’re one too.  I’ve never called anyone else on this board a racist for simply supporting the resolution because the two are mutually exclusive.  Further, I believe that the majority of the PWC citizens that support the resolution have genuine concerns.

My calling you a racist stems from your own writings.  Here’s a sample of what you wrote before: “I am all for guest workers but to be honest with you; I would rather get them from countries other then Mexico, El Salvador or many of the other countries in the Southern Hemisphere.”  Refer, also, to your tasteless and mean-spirited rhyme about that murdered Hispanic man who was not an illegal immigrant (a point you seemed to ignore and shouldn’t have mattered any way).  Further, Sam B’s analysis of your writings is also on point.

Still, let me respond to your comments:

“Equality 7-2521 . . . and all you other Traitors, go back under the rock in which you came. Keep supporting foreign lawbreakers over Americans.”  I really don’t know how to respond to that.  Last time I checked calling out racist did not make someone a traitor.  Further, I have no problem with the goals of the resolution, my problem stems from the utter futility of PWC taking up the cause at the expense of our hard-earned dollars.

“I bet you guys search the Courts each week to see which murderer or rapist you can defend.”  Nope, but the Supreme Court has held that such people have a constitutional right to be represented by an attorney.  Don’t you support the Constitution?

“The Hispanic rapist of a 4 year old and Hispanic hit & run Driver on PW County Policeman are coming up soon.”  Yes, and I hope they both go to jail for a very long time (personally, I’m all for the death penalty for all child rapists, but that’s another matter).  Still, I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove by citing these particular examples (or why you refer to them as Hispanics rather than illegal immigrants).  Their status as illegal immigrants (or Hispanics, as you put it) and their disgusting behavior are two different things and one has nothing to do with the other.  How do I know this?  Just look at all the U.S. citizens on trial for similar things.  Disgusting people do disgusting things, no matter their status (or race).

“I’m sure you . . . will be in the front row making excuses for their crimes.”  Nope, but I’m sure you’re thinking up another one of your ugly rhymes to demean another innocent victim of one of those heinous crimes you like to cite.

“I hope we don’t separate their families.”  Huh?

Cobra, for a man claiming to have an education your comprehension of my previous comment was rather pathetic. I just scrolled up to double check it and there still does not seem to be any advocacy of granting assistance or benefits to illegal immigrants nor support for indicted murder defendants. I even stated that support for the enforcement of immigration laws is NOT inherently racist. What I said was that to call millions of people rapists, murderers and (somewhat asymmetrical choice) hit & runners is racist. I’d explain further, but it would be a waste of time since you showed your true colors by mentioning “The Hispanic rapist of a 4 year old” instead of carefully specifying illegal immigrants while expressing your amiability toward Hispanic citizens and legal residents. Save your next spewing of vitriol for the Klan meeting.

Chris, good you have a plan for fighting illegal immigration.  I’m all for it.  Now - please just tell me where the money is coming from to build the fence, deport those already here and all the other expenses that go with the Resolutionist Plan.  That’s all I ask .. Show Me The Money.

Chris Cummings,

All four of my grandparents were immigrants, and they all came prior to 1924 so there were no visa requirements for them.  So I guess, since they did not have immigration visas, in your eyes they were all illegal and I am therefore a second-generation anchor baby.

The point of my references was to show that the issue of immigration restrictions in this country has been kicked around for well over 100 years,  and has always been based on racism.

I consider it the height of compliment to be disliked by people who support racisim and discrimination. So, Thank You

cobra,
I see you’re still in fine fettle. Cindy Sheehan?, didn’t see her in the hoopla down in Crawford, wonder if she got an invite.
Aside to Jenna: the news media didn’t deserve those pictures.
Back to business: Assuming that we eventually settle the illegal alien problem, what do we then do about about the native-born lawyers, doctors, politicians, teachers, police officers, etc., who are being caught daily trying to have sex with 13-year old girls & boys or supporting the child-porn industry?
I know what I would do, but that is another subject, right now we have to round up some illegal aliens to fill in the crack in Dale Boulevard. I know what you’re thinking, stop.

Phdee? White trash female? Your racism is showing again. Please refrain. I find your comments disturbing. Chris Cummings

Sorry Ron i just assumed you followed the law. I assume by these two articles mentioned that their should have been restrictions placed on Latin America as well. That is correct. I suggest you learn to follow the rules and laws of this country. Wikipedia appears to be biased on the terms illegal and legal when it comes to actual crime and job figures as well as other categories in the subset of immigration. Giving taxpayer and social service benefits to illegal aliens who don’t pay taxes is just plain “Socially wrong”. It’s called a double standard, or discrimination, or racism in many circles. My ancestors legally emigrated to this country did yours? I would guess not for you Ron. As for being “Nativist” thanks for the compliment. For my mom immigrated legally in the 60’s. We need to bring legal immigration back down to pre 1980’s levels so we can better assimilate what we have. That border fence needs to go up as well, and strict employer enforcement as well as law enforcement of all immigration laws and denial of Federal taxpayer dollars to “Sanctuary cities”. Poor cobra, so wrapped up in hate and Cindy Sheehan that he thinks she is going to Cuba and Venezuela.  Maybe he can go aLong - as a reporter.  I don’t get the connection between Cuba, Venezuela and Sheehan. Are we fighting Cuba and Venezuela?
