Time to condemn attacks on Fimian
Published: September 2, 2008
Gerry Connolly’s silence is out of character. In recent weeks, his supporters have flooded local papers with attacks on Keith Fimian. This isn’t news. But many of these letters go beyond attacking Keith on the issues.
These letters insinuate that Keith’s legislative agenda is based on “papal policy.” I am happy to say that the Potomac News is not among the newspapers who have printed this hateful screed. Shame on
those Fairfax papers who have.
What’s more troubling is that my constituents have received robocalls from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee where a woman attacks the beliefs of a Catholic organization to which
Keith belongs.
As a devout Catholic, I am troubled to see this. As an American, and a constituent of the 11th District, I am incensed. It was almost half a century ago that the same bigoted attacks were made on
President John F. Kennedy.
Gerry should not let his supporters attack Keith for his religious beliefs. Issue differences between Keith and Gerry Connolly on taxes, transportation, energy policy and the rule of law are fair game, but
religious affiliation is not. Perhaps Gerry Connolly’s people feel they need to attack Keith’s faith because they know Gerry Connolly is on the wrong side of the 11th district on the issues that matter. I call
on Gerry Connolly to openly condemn attacks on Keith’s faith. The 11th district deserves better.

Chairman, Prince William Board of County Supervisors

“Since when does Religion trump the laws of the land?“
Great question. Send it to the Republican Party.
And thanks again for calling me a traitor. I wear a combat patch on the right sleeve of my dress uniform. Do you? Oh that’s right. You’ve never actually served your country, much less served in a combat zone.
Chairman Stewart,
I will defend you against the attacks of those that can never accept a fair and open election.
RonnieCharest,
Show us one article where Chairman Stewart singled out Hispanics. Just as I thought. There are none. The issue was manufactured by people like you and RayWilliams who have lost business due to Illegal Immigrants leaving PW County. The resolution was clear. The target was illegal immigrants. The fact that they are predominantly Hispanic should not deter the board from doing what it was elected to do. You guys can continue to cry fowl a year after the election and resolutions implementation. Illegal Immigrants break several laws to achieve their American Dream. You and all the other apologist just pick and choose which law is ok to follow. If I was to punch you in the mouth with the excuse that I just did not want to hear you, would that be acceptable? I think not. Bottom line is the Catholic Church needs to follow the laws of the land just like all others. They hide behind their blind compassion as the church is loosing members by the thousands. They see immigrants as a way of filling the pews. The Catholic Church is in no position to lecture the Federal Government on any issue after seeing how they hid the Priest Molestation crisis that has costs the church Millions upon Millions of dollars to clean it all up. Since when does Religion trump the laws of the land? And RonnieCharest, please Google The Southern Poverty Law Center since you quote them so often. The founder Morris Dees is a child molester. If you don’t agree with their position they label you a hate group such as they did with FAIR. They have absolutely no credibility outside of idiots like You, JVA, Phdeebag, RayWilliams, and all the other Traitors who post here.
Here’s another fact to chew on. American Citizens are lined up outside the Mississippi plant where ICE arrested 600 illegal immigrants. American Citizens were ecstatic when the illegals were removed from the plant. We now read many stories about American Citizens who tried to get a job there but were denied. Not even sure why I wrote that as it is evident that you guys hate Americans and would sell out your fellow American for $1.00 such as the honorable local Marine Officer who did that by hiring labors at the local 7-11. I need not mention his name as we all are aware of who that was.
The anti-American group fails to understand one basic fact-It is the Illegals that we want our Laws to uphold and remove them from our Country.
The Catholic Church can help those in need and those that are Legally here.
Otherwise their TAX FREE STATUS needs to go.
The 11 th district deserves better. All the garbage that fill my mail with negative ads campaign against Keith Fimian and against his believe, reinforce my support to his candidacy. His position about unborn babies rights make him target of attack from Connolly and the abortion supporters. VP Republican candidate is against abortion, so what!, as well most conservative supporters who believe that live start at the moment of the conception, it is not only about religion, it is about facts.. Partial birth abortion it is even worst and Connolly support that kind of procedure to terminate the life of an unborn baby, and he call himself Catholic.
Last I checked, Stewart was targeting illegal aliens. Not hispanic catholics.
Well said willow.
Funny, where is Corey calling for John McCain to step up and stop the lies John’s supporters knowingly try to spread, undermining the Christian faith of Barack Obama? Corey’s typing fingers must be broken as I’ve not seen any letters supporting Barack from Corey.
Corey - News Flash: Your party reaps what it sows.
The hypocrisy of this man knows no bounds. His targeted minority group is primarily Catholic. The Catholic Church has helped and supported immigrants for a LONG time, trying to help them learn English, assimilate, etc. The Catholic Church is long on social justice and short on the kind of hatred Stewart condones and encourages.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. And I don’t mean Grace.
With Chairmen Connolly old habits never die. Read the below article
“Pay To Play”
From the Connection in 2003:
Connolly_5 “I HAVE A LOT of support in the business community,“ said Connolly, adding that small donors were also an important part of his campaign.
Some of his biggest donors last month were executives from Maryland-based Lerner Enterprises who gave him a total of $10,000. On June 16, Connolly won approval for a Lerner project from the Board of Supervisors even though the Planning Commission had earlier voted to deny the application. Lerner will be able to increase the density at its Tysons II site and build eight new buildings, including a 540-unit high-rise condominium building.
On June 30, Connolly received $1,250 contributions from each of eight Lerner executives. Connolly last week denied a connection between his vote and the contributions.
“The Lerners have historically been supporters of mine,“ he said, adding that he did not give the company a sweetheart deal. “I put the squeeze on the Lerners in terms of proffers I felt the case needed.“ Lerner executives did not return calls for comment.
Connolly4Connolly also received checks from Gerald Halpin, the founder of the West Group development company, as well as from members of Halpin’s family. Six members of the Halpin family, some of whom live in Wyoming, gave Connolly $199 each. World Resources Company, a recycling firm run by Halpin’s son Peter, contributed $10,000 to Connolly’s campaign.
“I’ve been a friend of the family for a long time, long before I went into politics,“ said Connolly. “It is a personal relationship I’ve had initially through Peter [Halpin]. ... It really has nothing to do with business historically.“
On Jan. 6, the Board of Supervisors followed Connolly’s lead and approved a controversial rezoning application for West Group that allowed the company to build four 14-story high-rise residential buildings in Tyson’s Corner.
“I have no conflict of interest,“ said Connolly.
Reached at his office, Gerald Halpin declined to comment. Peter Halpin was out of the country last week and could not be reached.

Chairman Stewart,
You, sir, are one of the very last people in this county who should be hiding behind their Catholic beliefs, complaining about bigoted attacks on others.
It seems to me that most, if not all, of the Hispanics that you brag about driving out of Prince William County are Catholic. That didn’t seem to deter you from using our laws to legally deny public services for those most in need, and denying people equal protection under the law based on country of origin.
Still running with a certain Canadian Immigrant listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a “Nativist?“
I am opposed to attacks on any person if based solely on their religious beliefs.
However, if any person tries to force their religious beliefs on others they must be presumed to have, voluntarily, opened themselves to attack & they must be attacked. This nation is a democracy, not a theocracy.
Also, if any person lacks the courage & integrity to answer a simple question about their religious belief, they should keep that belief to themselves.
The simple question I ask is: Would you, based solely upon your religion, force an unwanted pregnancy & childbirth on a victim of rape?
I have been asking this question for many years & have received no answer.
This tells me that there are no people of courage & integrity reading my posts.
