City elections uncontested
The Manassas City Council and Mayoral elections on May 6 will be uncontested.
The deadline for filing for candidacy with the Voter Registration office was Monday with no one registering to run against city council Republican candidates Steven Smith, Jonathan Way and Mark Wolfe or Republican mayoral candidate Harry J. “Hal” Parrish II.
Incumbents Smith and Way along with newcomer Wolfe were nominated in January at the Republican Convention over challengers Maureen Wood and Dave Core.
Smith will be serving his second consecutive four-year term while Way will serve his first full term after being appointed to the spot vacated by now Delegate Jackson H. Miller-R, 50th District in early 2007.
Parrish will be replacing current mayor Douglas Waldron, who is stepping down after one term in office. Parrish is also following in his father’s footsteps Harry J. Parrish, who served as mayor of the town and city of Manassas from 1963 to 1981. Manassas became a city in 1975.
