Battlefield advances in Northwest Region field hockey tournament

Senior center forward Paula Billingsley converted a penalty stroke with five minutes remaining on Tuesday and the Battlefield High School field hockey team defeated Forest Park, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the Northwest Region Tournament.

Forest Park goalie Lydia Phillips nearly stopped the decisive shot, tipping it with her stick, but the ball skipped into the cage, giving Billingsley her eighth goal of the season.

In Thursday’s semifinals, Battlefield will play at No. 1 seed Mountain View, while North Stafford, which defeated Osbourn, 8-0, will play the winner of Wednesday’s game between Woodbridge and Riverbend.
