Forest Park field hockey team wins Cardinal District Tournament
When the rain finally subsided long enough to allow the Cardinal District Tournament to be completed, the Forest Park Bruins played one of their best matches of the season.
Samantha Schottler scored a pair of goals—giving her 12 for the season—and the Bruins defense held regular season champion Woodbridge to three shots on goal in a 2-0 victory on Monday night.
Kerri Frost had an assist as Forest Park won the district banner for the fifth consecutive season.
“The whole team played focused and as a whole unit,“ Bruins coach Edie Pybus said. “We kept control of the game.“
In the third place, Osbourn Park clinched a Northwest Region Tournament berth with a 1-0 victory over Hylton.
The opening round of regional tournament play begins on Tuesday with Riverbend playing a 6:30 p.m. game at Woodbridge and Osbourn Park traveling to Riverbend. Forest Park will play Cedar Run District champion Battlefield at Liberty High School.
