Proposed district changes released

The Virginia High School League released its Initial Proposed Alignment Plan for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years.

The league's Redistricting and Reclassification committee will meet again Jan. 26 to consider changes to the proposal before it is presented to the executive committee Feb. 24 and the league's membership body in March.

The Cardinal District would remain in its current form, but the Cedar Run, Evergreen and Bull Run Districts would be adding teams.

Under the proposal, the Cedar Run District would go from five teams to six teams. Battlefield, Osbourn and Stonewall would remain, while Freedom (Loudoun County), Broad Run and Sherando would be added.

Current district members Loudoun Valley and Heritage-Leesburg would be moved to the Group AA Dulles District.

For the Group AA Evergreen District, the only proposed change would be the addition of the new unnamed high school scheduled to open in Prince William County near Kettle Run in 2011.

In the Group A Bull Run District, the current six schools, including Manassas Park, would remain with one addition: Stonewall-Mt. Jackson.
