Hancock again honored by CAA

For the second consecutive time this season, George Mason University freshman Luke Hancock was selected as Co-Rookie of the Week in the Colonial Athletic Association the conference announced Monday. He shared the honor with Hofstra’s Halil Kanacevic.

Hancock shined during the Patriots’ (3-2) recent trip to San Juan for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off where Mason finished seventh out of eight teams by beating Indiana University Sunday morning.

The Roanoke product averaged 8.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists while playing 28.7 minutes a game during the tournament. Against Villanova in the teams’ opener — a one-point, last-minute Mason loss — Hancock scored nine points and had five rebounds. In Game 2, against Georgia Tech, he recorded eight points and a team-high nine rebounds to go with seven assists. Playing the Hoosiers in the finale, Hancock scored nine points again and had another eight rebounds.

Out of Hargrave Military Academy, Hancock leads the team in assists for the year with 20 and is tied for second with sophomore Ryan Pearson on the team in rebounding with 30. His 9.8 points per game is good for fourth among Patriots.

Hancock and Mason return to the hardwood Nov. 28 at Tulane (1-3) at 3 p.m. The contest will be aired on the radio on 1260 AM. The Patriots next home game is slated for Dec. 8 against Dayton (2-2) with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
