FAIRFAX — Junior guard Brittany Poindexter scored a game-high 17 points and freshman Am-ber Easter combined for 13 points and nine rebounds as the George Mason women’s basketball team defeated Jacksonville University, 57-49, on Monday at Patriot Center.

Forest Park High School graduate Ashleigh Braxton finished with nine points, on 4-of-9 shooting,  and eight rebounds as the Patriots improved to 2-0 at home this season.

Mason (2-2) opened the game with a 9-2 run and avenged a loss on the Dolphins’ home court last season. Jacksonville closed to within 36-34 with 11:54 remaining in the game, but the Patriots pulled away with 11 unanswered points.

Braxton’s jumper with 2 minutes, 11 seconds left and a free throw from freshman Janaa Pickard (nine points) sealed the win.

The Patriots return to action on Friday at home against North Carolina Central.
