Potomac Nationals to open playoffs at home

The Potomac Nationals will open the Carolina League playoffs on Wednesday Sept. 3.
Potomac will host games one and two of the division series against its to-be-determined opponent. Both games are to start at 7:05 p.m.
After game one, game two is Sept. 4.
Potomac will be on the road for game three on Sept. 5 and if necessary for game four on Sept. 6.
If necessary, game five is to be at Pfitzner Stadium on Sunday Sept. 7 and start at 4:05 p.m.
Gonzalez shines in rookie league
Esmailyn Gonzalez won the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League batting title Wednesday after a 2-for-2 performance in the final game of the Washington-affiliate’s season.
Gonzalez, an 18 year-old shortstop and the Nationals’ No. 17 prospect overall, batted .350 (62 for 177) on the year and finished with 12 doubles, three triples and two home runs to go with 33 RBI. He also had 23 walks on the way to a .436 on-base percentage in 50 games.
The GCL Nationals clinched the league’s East Division title Tuesday with a 2-0 win over the GCL Mets. The Nationals finished the season with a record of 33-22, 2.5 games ahead of the Marlins’ affiliate.
Gar-Field moves to 2-0
The Gar-Field volleyball team won its second game in as many outings Tuesday night by defeating Freedom-South Riding, 3-1.
The Indians won the first game, 25-11, game two 25-18 and game four 25-22.
Freedom captured the third game, 14-25.
Kirstin Griffith had 25 serving points for the Indians, while Julia Nelson had 10 assists and Kara Arbgast nine kills and 16 serving points.
• CHANCELLOR 3, FOREST PARK 2: Forest Park dropped its season opening match on Tuesday. Match scores were 14-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14 and 8-15. No further details were reported.
• EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN 3, FRESTA VALLEY 1: Emily Anderson had a block and four kills as Emmanuel Christian defeated Fresta Valley, 25-17, 25-12, 17-25, and 25-17.
Emmanuel Christian is 1-0.
GOLF
Forest Park captured a 50-stroke victory over Woodbridge during play on Tuesday.
Forest Park carded a 309, while Woodbridge finished at 359, Hylton 393 and Gar-Field 435.
J. Buttgereit had a 75 to lead the individual competition for Forest Park, while teammates M. O’Shell, R. Blumer and C. Bartel finished at 76, 77 and 81, respectively.
Woodbridge’s E. Medlin finished fourth with an 87.
