Firefighters are call away

Residents depend on a combination of career and volunteer emergency workers to fight fires and respond to medical and rescue emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The staffing configuration varies from station to station depending on local community needs.

In late 2007, Kevin McGee, a 27-year-veteran of the Department of Fire and Rescue, was appointed the county’s new fire and rescue chief. The Fire Chief works at the McCoart Administration Center on Prince William Parkway and can be reached at 703-792-6800.

The fire and rescue departments are funded through a fire levy of $0.0597.cents per $100 of assessed real estate property value for fiscal 2009, donations and fundraisers.

County general funds in the budget are used to purchase some equipment and pay the salaries of career fire and rescue employees.
