Prince William County residents may bring recyclable items, trash and other waste products to the county landfill for disposal in designated areas.

Items are accepted from residents of Prince William County and the towns of Occoquan, Quantico, Dumfries and Haymarket. Items will not be accepted from other locations.

Electronics will be accepted only from private residences, not from businesses. A maximum of three items will be accepted. If you have more than three items, please contact the Landfill at 703-792-5751 for guidance.

• Location: Landfill 14811 Dumfries Road, Independent Hill. Phone: 703-792-5750.

• Landfill hours: Monday-Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; holidays, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed New Year’s Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day; closes at 2 p.m. Christmas Eve.

• Location: Balls Ford Road Compost Facility, 13000 Balls Ford Road, Manassas, VA Phone: 703-335-8181.

Compost Facility hours: Monday-Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m

• Fees: Prince William County residents pay a solid waste management fee as part of their semi-annual real estate property tax bill. Therefore there is no additional fee for dropping off household trash at the landfill. For residents in Manassas, Manassas Park, Occoquan, Haymarket, Quantico or Dumfries, there is a $5 flat fee for the first 200 pounds with an addition fee per pound for all refuse over 200 pounds.

• There are two convenient trash drop-off locations where residents in the western end of Prince William County can drop trash every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Nokesville Elementary School, 121625 Fitzwater Drive, Nokesville and 7 a.m. to noon Evergreen Fire Station, 3510 James Madison Highway, Gainesville.

• Recycle at curb and collection trailers: glass, aluminum, tin, steel and bi-metal cans, plastic bottles, newspapers, mixed paper (including white/colored paper, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, empty non-waxed food boxes and cardboard), household batteries. • Recycle at Landfill and Balls Ford Road Compost facility: All the above, plus antifreeze, motor oil, textiles, corrugated cardboard, grass, leaves, brush, scrap metal/appliances and tires, automobile batteries (landfill only) and oil filters (landfill only

• Hazardous waste facility at the landfill is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for paints, fertilizers, old gasoline, kerosene and other household hazardous wastes at the Landfill only..

• Electronics recycling: The Prince William County Department of Public Works will also accept unwanted electronics and computers. These materials will be accepted on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Landfill only.
