Happy Hoofers 'do' lunch

»  Comments | Post a Comment

After a month in “sick-bay” I’m starting to feel like I ‘m back among the living. Tuesday was the first day I’ve been out of the house, except for doctor’s appointments.
I met the Happy Hoofers, after their performance at Hearth and Home for our monthly birthday luncheon and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Terry Noller was the birthday girl. It was like old home week at the Olive Garden, as retired Hoofers Lee and Nellie also joined us.
Our wonderful waitress, Charlotte, has taken good care of us three months in a row. It was good to be out and great to spend time with such good friends. I have to admit that I came home and took a nap, but I’m looking forward to being back with the Hoofers on Monday. We’ll be going to the Gainesville Medical and Rehabilitation Center to perform on Tuesday where we look forward to greeting Hoofer-emeritus, Adele Inks.
MindFit class
A new and unique program is being introduced at the center on Monday. MindFit™ , the Brain Power Fitness program developed by the CogniFit company has been added to our offerings.
This is a computer-based program designed to increase an individual’s memory, brain functioning and enhance cognitive abilities. The program consists of 24 20-minute sessions. Marianne Nigreville has volunteered to oversee this program and act as the center’s trainer.
Due to space requirements, the class will be limited to only five participants. Basic computer skills are necessary to participate. This program has been made possible by a generous grant from the Thornton Trust.
Enrollment is offered at $20 per participant, which will allow the center to purchase more licenses for use at a later date. Register for this dynamic program in the center office. To find out more about the program visit the CogniFit Web site at www.cognifit.com.
Annual bazaar
Center members are already busy planning for the annual bazaar in November. The crafters have selected Mondays as the day for working on bazaar items.
Everyone is invited to bring their skills and ideas at 10 a.m. each Monday. Here’s a chance to meet new friends while helping your senior center to raise funds.

The Solitaries, a group of senior singles, will hold their monthly luncheon Thursday at Hoppy’s Skytop at 12:30 p.m. at the Manassas Regional Airport, 9998 Wakeman Drive, in the Volo Aviation FBO Building.
