Chill out this summer

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Summer is really trying to make itself felt, so I thought I would share a couple of suggestions to make this summer more fun. When it’s hot people don’t feel like eating big hot meals so here is one of my favorites. I call it “The Sherry Waldorf.”
This serves one: Core and chop one apple of your choice into small pieces. My favorite is Granny Smith but if you like a sweeter apple use a Gala or your choice. Add one container of Yoplait Apple Turnover Light Yogurt; add about a handful of chopped walnuts and about 1/3 cup of Ocean Spray Craisins — any flavor. I also like the cherries and cranberries. Sprinkle in a little celery seed to taste. Mix and enjoy.
If you plan to hold this to serve later or make a larger amount for company or to take to a party, add some pineapple juice to the apple before adding the other ingredients. This will keep the apple from turning brown and tastes better than lemon juice. Friends and grandkids should like this too.
For variety in your beverage try using a Popsicle instead of ice cubes. This will alter the flavor of your iced tea. I like the assorted fruit flavors. The grandkids will probably get a kick out of this when they see a Popsicle sticking up out of their glass. Just buy a box of assorted flavors to have instant flavored tea. Of course you aren’t limited to ice tea, you can do this with lemonade, ginger ale, 7-Up, or my favorite, Sprite Zero. Add a little fun to your life.
June is National Iced Tea Month. Iced tea will be served each Friday for lunch at the senior center.
Don’t forget that June 14 is Flag Day We will have our Flag Day trivia on June 15 and whoever correctly answers all the flag trivia will win——an American flag!
