Call to Action: Help at Marine Corps Run Amuck

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Good morning Prince William and happy Flag Day! Please mark your calendar for this Saturday to join in the fun at the Marine Corps Run Amuck and Kids Run Amuck races at Quantico Marine base.

Volunteers are needed to work water points, baggage claim, the kids’ event, at on-course obstacles, packet pickup and other neat opportunities. The main race begins at 8 a.m. and the kids’ event follows at 9:30 a.m. The start and finish of both are at Quantico’s Butler Stadium. This promises to be a super event and teens are welcome to help. I can’t think of a better way to start your summer vacation than this. Please visit the Web site at: www.marinecorpshistorical half.com and then you’ll see the link to Run Amuck in the middle of the page. You can also call Tami at 703-432-1840 or e-mail her at tami.faram@usmc.mil for more information. These are the same fantastic folks that do the huge Marine Corps Marathon as well as many more projects throughout the year. They have 1,700 runners and 200 children already registered for this event and please do me a favor and thank everyone you see in uniform for keeping us safe everyday of the year while you’re there helping.

If you can flex out of work this Friday, the folks at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore need a couple of volunteers to go pick up a large donation in the ReStore truck between noon and 4 p.m. This is a “use your muscles” job but you’ll feel really good when you’re done! Please call Sam at 703-369-6145 if you can help him.

The ReStore also has the on-going need of a volunteer to help input donation information into their computer. Unfortunately, this database is not transportable but this is another fun place to be any weekday during traditional work hours. Please call Joanne at 703-369-6708 to help with this project.

Please don’t forget the great clean-up in Dale City in anticipation of the Fourth of July Parade. As you recall, the Dale City Civic Association and Neighborhood Leaders Group have created Neighborhood Pride Week in Dale City from June 27 to July 4. Volunteers are needed to spruce up the Fourth of July Parade route on both June 27 and June 28. Duties include edging sidewalks and curbs as well as litter pick up along Dale Boulevard from Mapledale to Minnieville. Since this is such a busy stretch of road, this volunteer job is not suitable for youth/Scouts under age 14 but certainly sounds like a really easy quick task for older teens and adults. Please call Connie at 703-590-6662 or e-mail her at moserconnie@hotmail.com to sign up for this fun event.
If you are looking for other opportunities, please don’t forget to call my wonderful team at the Voluntary Action Center.
