Seniors Woodbridge: Friends elect new officers

The Friends of the Prince William Senior Center at Woodbridge Inc. held its election for office on June 4. The results are: Juanita Whitt, president; Doris Bodwin, vice president; Nancy Holland, secretary; Lana Toby, treasurer.

The following are all directors: Billie Nichols, Sal Smeraglino, Patricia Prochnow, Shirley Van Ess, Joyce Wilson, Al Lammers, Leon Washington and Iris Hodges. Congratulations to you all.

Father’s Day
Happy Fathers Day this Sunday to all you men out there, whether you are fathers, grandfathers or even great-grandfathers. In most people’s books you are all great!

Officially summer
Not only is Sunday Father’s day it’s also the Summer Solstice. Its official time is 1:45 a.m. Eastern Daylight time. Also the time the Sun enters the sign Cancer. This is the longest day — shortest night of the year, also known as the first day of summer, Litha and St. John’s Eve. In Shakespeare’s day it would be known as Midsummer’s Eve — when the fairies come out and play.

One of my books says to leave some cake with sugary icing and a thimble of water out for the wee folk for their party.

They better bring their umbrellas this year with all the rain we’ve been having. I’m not complaining — I like the rain. It keeps the heat and pollen down and the kids inside and quiet. There are days when you’d think we had a children’s home close to my house there are so many kids in our court, none of which live in the court. It is a good place for them to play — not much traffic.

Hillbilly wedding
Don’t forget to make your reservation for Thursday for the big Hillbilly Wedding. Nancy Holland is the bride and Ron Saxe is the groom.

The program starts at 10:30 a.m. with lunch and wedding cake follow the festivities.

Reservations must be made at the front desk and a $2 donation holds your seat for the program. As always donations for the lunch are accepted at the time of serving.

Upcoming events
Monday: Lifetime Fitness, computer class, wood carving, Euchre, Bingo, drawing, walking club, ceramic techniques. Lunch is fish on a roll.

Tuesday: Ping pong, crafts, Stand Tall, manicure, Wii, Latin music, Spanish, ceramic techniques, horseshoes. Lunch is beef stroganoff.

Wednesday: TOPS, Lifetime Fitness, ceramics,nurse, Tai Chi, blood pressure, crochet/knit, pool, Pinochle, Texas Hold’em, Skip-bo, The Ritzy Chix, Scrabble, woodcarving, Bunco. In-service day, no lunch, dinner or transportation.

Thursday: Stand Tall, ceramics, Fitness II, Hillbilly Wedding, Bible study, ESL, Bridge, Stand Tall, stamping, quilting. Lunch is barbecued chicken.

June 26: Lifetime Fitness, jewelry class, blood pressure, sing-a-long w/Angel, walking club, line dancing. Lunch is pizza.
