Police investigate string of burglaries

Manassas City police are investigating a rash of burglaries targeting local businesses, authorities said.

Since the beginning of March, there have been 13 commercial burglaries in the city in addition to three in Prince William County that police believe are related, said Manassas police Chief John J. Skinner.

Among the business burgled are La Flor de Puebla Bakery at 10460 Dumfries Road; Andrade Market at 8641 Sudley Road; and Mexico Lindo at 8630 at 8630 Mathis Ave., according to police.

“We consider them all related … and that is due to the type of business that is targeted, the day of the week, the method of entry and the types of items that have been stolen from the businesses,” Skinner said Wednesday.

The burglaries have mainly occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, police said.

Another commonality police identified were the items being stolen — items such as cash, alcohol, phone cards and TVs. And in two cases, jukeboxes were forced open and the coin boxes emptied.
Additionally, Skinner said he believes a number of the businesses are Latino-owned.

Two of the three burglaries in Prince William that police believe are related occurred between March 1 and 2 at Ben’s Whole Hog BBQ, 7422 Old Centreville Road, and Rosa’s Beauty Salon, 7545 Old Centreville Road, police said.

The third happened at Booth Feeds, 8300 Rugby Road, around 10:05 p.m. March 5.

Other businesses burglarized in Manassas include Virginia Barbeque, Ashton Avenue Diner and Mi Barrio Restaurant, police said.

Police believe two males are responsible for the burglaries. When they’ve been caught on surveillance tape, police said the two have had their faces and heads covered.

Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to call Manassas City Crime Solvers at 703-330-0330. Callers can remain anonymous and could earn up to a $1,000 cash reward.
