Man sentenced for sexual assault of girl

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Dale City man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison, with 13 years and 7 months suspended, for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.

Kwame Agyenim Boateng, 43, was convicted in October of aggravated sexual battery and taking indecent liberties with a minor.

During his October trial, the girl, who was the daughter of Boateng's friend, said he asked her to come to his apartment on June 22 because he had pictures of her he wanted to give her.

Once the girl was there, he took her into his bedroom, told her to take off her pants and raped her, she said.

The girl testified that Boateng told her not to tell her parents, but later that night, she did. The girl's mother called the police.

Boateng was initially also charged with rape, but that charge was dismissed.

Police said Boateng then fled to New York, where he was arrested a few days later.

In a victim impact statement, the girl's mother said the girl still has nightmares about the incident and is now "afraid of men."

Boateng maintained his innocence at his sentencing hearing Thursday.

Boateng, a citizen of Ghana, is also being held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, his attorney said.
