The Department of Corrections won't open a probation and parole office on Farm Creek Drive near a few schools and Veterans Park in Woodbridge.
The department is still looking for a site in eastern Prince William.
Last month, nearby residents vehemently protested the idea at a department led hearing.
"This location is no longer under consideration," Gene Johnson wrote in a letter to Del. Jeffrey M. Frederick, R-Woodbridge.
Frederick said he was satisfied that the department decided against that area.
"An industrial area probably isn't a bad place, but the problem with the industrial area that they chose was it was in close proximity to schools and parks," Frederick said.
"We don't want them to be near kids and families," he said.
The main probation and parole office for Prince William opened in 1976 and near the Prince William courthouse.
An office in Dumfries opened in 1999 to serve residents of eastern Prince William.
The lease for that office is running short and a department official said moving it to Farm Creek Drive in Woodbridge was one option.
The office serves convicted felons on probation and parole who already live and work in Prince William County, said William Redmiles, chief probation officer for Prince William County.
