Marine Corps League to open for Christmas

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Marines don't have the luxury of taking the day off at Christmas, so the Marine Corps League is open on Thursday, too.

The league's Mickey Finn Detachment will hold an open house at its home in Triangle for anyone who would like a place to gather and a warm meal, said club manager Regina Hatter.

The detachment has been opening on Christmas Day for at least eight years, Hatter said.

"During that time, we open for the people who have nowhere to go," she said.

The idea started because some of the club's 712 members just seemed to gravitate there at Christmas, Hatter said. The open house is a good place for families with military members serving abroad to celebrate the holiday.

But you don't need a military connection to attend, and there is no charge for the meal, which will be served between 2 and 6:30 p.m.

The club will serve ham, turkey, green beans, corn, baked beans, stuffing and desserts.

College football games will be on in the background, Hatter said, and some league members will probably open their presents around the tree in the club.

The Mickey Finn Detachment is at 18736 Fuller Heights Road. For additional information, call 703-221-7393.
