While visiting the Chinn Park Regional Library I was told that the library board intends to recommend to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors that all libraries be closed on Sundays in order to eliminate a budget deficit.
While there may be a need to reduce the library’s budget, closing the libraries on Sundays will be a disservice to the working men and women of the county. Most of us work long hours (and have long, grueling commutes) five or six days a week.
For many, Sunday is the only chance to take advantage of the library’s services. I think there are other times the library could be closed to save money.
Has the library board considered closing one weekday per week, opening later and/or closing earlier? I hope the supervisors will consider all options rather than accepting the library board’s recommendation, which is ill-advised.
