What is wrong when the president, CIA director and the attorney general think some torture may be OK? Answer: The fact it goes against the Western, Judeo-Christian and ancient Greek philosophic and cultural underpinning values of our society.
Accepting torture is believing that “the end justifies the means,” which is dead wrong. Philosophically our society holds that “an evil action cannot be justified by reference to a good intention.” It is that simple.
George W. Bush, Michael Hayden and Michael Mukasey would chuck out our philosophies and replace them with values espoused by Machiavelli. Clearly this trio, while professing to be conservative, is nothing of the kind.
