The picture and staff report about the ceremony to honor fallen State Trooper Jose M. Cavazos is much appreciated. The Bible says that it is good thing to remember our dead. Law officers sacrifice a lot to maintain order in our society and to enforce public law made by Congress.
Public Law 87-726, passed by the 87th Congress of the U.S., approved and signed by President John F. Kennedy on Oct. 1, 1962, authorized the president to proclaim May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week of each year during which such May 15 occurs as Police Week. The resolution acknowledged that police officers of America have:
• Worked devotedly and selflessly in behalf of the people of this nation, regardless of the peril or hazard to themselves.
• Have safeguarded the lives and property of their fellow Americans.
• Have given our country internal freedom from fear of the violence and civil disorder.
• By their patriotic service and their dedicated efforts have earned the gratitude of the Republic.
Let’s resolve to never forget State Trooper Jose M. Cavazos’ sacrifice and his family. Let’s resolve to express thanks and respect to the men and women police officers who put their life on the line daily for our protection.
