Investigations will set students far behind

»  Comments | Post a Comment

In the column by Ms. Oppenhagen she refers to the process of “regurgitating memorized facts.” That is a total misrepresentation of the traditional math approach. Students learn to add and then practice. They put the pieces together by doing it.

The Math Investigations program is unproven and only serves to improve the math skills of students who need extra help. It is OK as a supplement but is wrong as a main curriculum. It will set our students so far behind that they may never catch up.
